going to look at a 2003 rx1 tomorrow at dealer they sold it new and have done all of the updates. around 1500 miles studded track. around $5k

also going to go look at a 2003 viper er. miles same condition like new. around $4k.

I'm comming off a vmax 600 dlx and will enjoy one or the other. but is the rx1 the better choice or not. thanks (riding is done in se,wi and up north once or twice a year.)

Well I own a 2002 Viper and a friend has a 2003 RX-1. IMO, I'd take the Viper. I liked the 1st yr. RX if I was on a lake or an extremely groomed trail with not much bumps or twisties. Otherwise it just plain wore you out. Performance wise his is slightly faster/quicker than my Viper, but I mean barely. That same friend had a 2004 Warrior for awhile and I kind of liked that. Another friend has the 2005 Warrior and 2005 RX-1 w/ the mono skid. Much better than the 2003 model in many areas, ride, handling and better performance because of the quick transfering skid. I could ride either of those.
Can't go wrong with the RX motor though. It would be tough to wear it out.

Depends what you want, I would think both would have similar ride quality since they both use the pro-action skid, the Viper may have an edge in the handling dept. but the RX will definately have the viper in fuel economy and you can run 87 octane in the RX also making it cheaper to operate. The RX will most likely outlast the Viper hands down. IMO I would get the RX, better mileage, longer life span, no more buying that expensive 2 stroke oil. If I had my choice I would buy the RX, but that's me.

It could go either way with me.$1000.00 MORE but I might lean towards four stroke not because of reliability but for it being a fourstroke and that is the future of these sleds. Yamaha I think even with their two strokes (motors) have them pretty reliable. If you are running twisty or are an aggressive rider and only plan on riding and trading it in a couple of years(3 or so) go with the viper. If you lay back and enjoy your ride I would go with the the fourstroke. I'm not saying the rx1 doesnt run alright in the trails but the viper is alot better in the aggressive mode.

I like my 4-stroke. with the heavier sway bar and the mt. straps I go thru moggols like there not there. Only thing I did notice if I am running really hard thru them the carbs floats bounce and it leans the sled out and it back fires once in awhile.

But that is only in the mogggoools.

My opinion, I wouldnt go back...second opinion you cant go wrong with either sled! :yam:
