Saw this in the UP last season. Seems like it would be top heavy... especially in high winds (crossing Big Mac) or on slippery roads.

I don't think I'd like driving this.

It seems centered pretty good. I think it would be better than a enclosed trailer whipping you around in high winds? I wonder how he or she has that setup to get those top sleds off? Yes there is enough weight with that truck it has to be close to 8,000#.

i'd do it but i wouldnt buy one, I would rather tow a trailer. We have a 3000(without sleds) pound trailer and it doesnt whip our little dakota around at all.

That kit is a purchased item. Ive seen them before. Takes a good size truck!

I seem them last year as well, I was following them out of Munising. They where out state with a full load of Mountain sleds. I want to say they where from Iowa if memory serves me well.

Anyway, driving behind them the truck looked stable and was not moving around at all. But it did strike me as "holey $hit that looks top heavy".

If the driver got in an accident, would you be more worried about the truck or the sleds? Makes you think, huh?

I would hate to see that thing in an accident, things could get really ugly really fast. Think about what a 600# sled launched off the roof could do to whatever or whoever it landed on.

I seen them in Newberry last year. They unloaded in no time.

oops -- you where correct I saw them in Newbury as well (and Burger King with Elvis)

How did they unload it?I hear you on the accident thing, never thought about that. But I must also say when I was in a truck and hit a tree(tree didn't move!) there was a unsecure shovel in the back end that came through the back window like it was an arrow and through the front windshield between both of us. How many times have you driven with loose objects in the back of the bed? You do have a good point about those top sleds and the back ones for that matter but atleast they are strapped down.

Break it down

200-400lbs for the framework, 500lbs for each sled, maybe more. Plus four people in the cab? NFW man, that thing is an accident waiting to happen!!!!!!! Wonder if your insurance will cover you if your overloaded?

no kidding, what about all the stuff people have in their car/truck just laying around....my wife thinks im nuts because i want all the stuff put away in the glovebox...etc.

i was in one minor accident where my cell phone went from the dash to behind the back seat in my buddies passport. i couldnt find it, he had to call the number so i could locate it. kind of scary if you think about it.

back on track though...
i dont suppose a 1500# rated strap with a 500# working load limit would hold up well in a serious accident, hopefully the ski bars are strong enough you dont have to wory about a couple of sleds flying off your roof. And i always wondered about how strong and functional those headache racks are on sleddecks...

also to think about

my truck for example.....05 ford f250 c/c l/b powerstroke

vehicle gwvr 10,000
e rated tire @3200 ea. total of 12,800
truck weight full tank of gas around 8200
4 dudes with gear at least 225 ea total 1000 (we like to eat)
4 sleds averageing 500# + 100 ea of fuel/coolant/etc total 2400 (hopefully no 4 strokes...he he he)
how much you think that double deck weighs? if it is electric or hydro, id guess at least 1200, otherwise probably 900 (im guessin here)

to total weight of truck and stuff (no hyd or elec) is 12,500
with electric or hydro assist.....12,800

both are legal for your tire rating, but both are well over the gwvr of the truck. talk about a lawsuit if anything happened, or a really mean ticket.

the f350 has a 11500 gwvr for single rear wheels, and the dually is 13000.

hmmmmmmm mabye i really do NEED a dually.....

im sure the truck will handle it fine, but that liability hanging over your head every where you go....no pun intended.

later
joe

oh yeah, you wouldnt be able to hit up the McD's drivethrough for breakfast anymore.....that sucks!
