I need a spare key, but the local stealership tells me that I need the numbers/letter off of the ignition and not the 4 numbers off of my key (2001 sxr 700) or the vin number. Is this true? I haven't looked at the ignition yet, but my dad looked at it and told me it would be difficult to find the numbers because they were on the bottom of it or something. They also told me it would cost $12 and take a week to get a simple key. That sounds ridiculous to me. My local polaris dealer gave me my last spare key for free without even thinking about it. I also have an open recall on my sled and they couldn't even tell me what it was about. All I found out was that it had something to do with the rear suspension. If someone can run my vin number for me and help me out, I would appreciate it greatly. Lastly, is there any real differences between aftermarket trailing arms for $85 list and the $200+ yamaha oem trailing arms? I need a left trailing arm for my sled and was just going to get the aftermarket one, paint it silver, and buy the sticker for it...seems a lot cheaper than buying oem. Which year/model trailing arms are an exact fit for my sled? Thanks a bunch!

the price is right @ $12.as they are cut per sled.unlike pol. and cat which are the same for any sled ( except newer ones they finally changed the universal key).last time i got a key i used the # off the key.no biggy if you haev to get it off the ignition.they come out pretty quick.

as for the trailing arm.aftermarket cheapies are just that.if your on a tight budget and dont care if it match's otherwise you should be able to find a used one around here.any sx-sx-r,v-max will work.just didnt uears were colored different

My buddy just had two keys made for his ski-doos. Dealer charged him $25.00/ea. Had to program the keys with his computer and off they went. That was for 06 and 02 sleds.

I left my yammy key at home I just know how to run mine without...thats all im saying! ;)!

the dealership said that I need a letter followed by 4 numbers or something close to that to get me the key. He thought it would be on the key, but my key only has 4 numbers on it...no letters at all.

I happened to be at the Yamaha dealer in West Yellowstone and mentioned that I needed another key. The guy brought out this huge box full of keys. They were attached to several rings for a wide variety of number ranges. IIRC, they were 4 digit numbers. My key was #3020, so I sorted through the 3xxx ring until I found a couple that matched my number. Cost me 4$.

that's awesome about the box 'o' keys! The dealership that is in my town is rock river powersports in jefferson, wi and they aren't much help at all. Don't have anything in stock, aren't very friendly, they don't even take 1% off of list price, etc. I am not being mean here or stretching the truth at all..... Come on...if you are an authorized yamaha dealership and can't even fix a recall on my sled or even find out the details of it? That is pathetic! I have to find another dealership!
