Advice on track damage

Hey all,

I was in the process of changing slides on the GF's 98 SRX700 this afternoon when I discovered some track damage (see link below). I'm relatively new to doing my own maintenance & thought I would ask for some opinions on it... I was hoping to not have to stick much money (beyond the basics) into the sleds this season (read: I don't want to have to buy a new track), but if this one is totally shot I will have to replace it I guess. It is the stock Yokahama that came with the sled - sled has about 2700 miles on it. Should I replace it or could I safely get by with it this season? Thanks!

I would replace it.
You are gonna be out on a nice ride and it will let you down.
Or you will be flying across a lake or long straight away and when she lets go look out.
 
I have the stock track out of my Viper w/140 studs in it. I'd sell it for 100 bucks plus shipping if you want a track to get you by. Maxdlx
 
2700 miles on a yokohama track!!!!!! Uve done well I would not want that thing on the back of my mind while riding it. U got ur money worth out of it and have done better then most. Id change it.
 
Well, I guess I don't need to sort through any differing opinions on this one! Time for a new track. Thanks for taking the time to reply - much appreciated.
 
The stock Yoko tracks are absolute junk, especially the 98s. My 99 had a bit better one, but not much. I went to a 1" Camoplast and although I've had a couple studs tear out because of overtightening, I haven't had any lugs rip or any other damage. Put a Camoplast track on, you won't be sorry!

I had looked into tracks a few months back & deceided that if/when I needed to get one for either of my SRX700s that I was going to try the 9830. I have read the stocker was crap, so I am pretty anxious now to get a different track on there to see just how big of a difference there is going to be. If it works out, the other sled (the one I use) is getting a new track too!
 
Saw a guy try to get the rest of the winter out of a track like that he got the rail stuck in the broken window and bent the end to boot.He was comeing out of a little swamp and got it stuck at the bump comeing out.Earned himself the name SLEPLUCK.

I most definitely thought of that already lol... but like I said, I am pretty new to doing my own repairs and would like to just get hers taken apart and reassembled sucessfully to gain that experience (plus if I mess something up while I am working on it, I still have mine to ride!). If all goes well getting it swapped and the track kicks ***, I will swap mine out for a new one too then. ;)!

do yourself a favor and take a razor blade and cut the old track right off the sled...then pull out the suspension...no sense is fighting to pull the supension out of a bad track....just saves time...rock on!

just an fyi cause you said you new to this! plus make sure you use lock tight on the bolt that hold the gears on the cog shaft when you put it back together. bought a sled that had a track change and the bolt backed out
