does anyone know if you need to re-jet when doing the head gasket mod and reed spacers on a sxr 600?

I'm pretty sure that you don't need to re-jet but you do need to run 92 octane for the head gasket mod. Stopper notch will give you the same result as spacers is super easy and is free. Check the tech pages.

a buddy of mine had these mods done at the dealer, and they said they dropped one size on his main jets. they gave him his stock jets back. we had it out on the lake today and could only get 70 mph out of it. the only other things he had done were a new hacksaw track and 96 studs. i checked the track tension and it was good- not too tight. the dealer said they might have to drop the jets down one more size? has anyone else run into this problem and will jetting cause this much of a power loss? this sled did 100 mph last season and only has 1000 miles on it.
check the windows on the track to see if they are too tall a lug where they hit on the heat exchangers. sounds like you have track rub. alot of tracks put a full lug over the window. yamaha heat exchangers are not designed for that tall a lug and will drag. you will need to cut a knotch out of the lug with a sheet rock knife so that the height is 3/4in below the tip of the studs you have. check it with a straight edge.
good luck

I had 2 layers removed from the head gasket and never went down on mains.
I had a Yamaha Super tech check it out when I did the mod and he never touched mains and I ran for two years without problems. He did go up one size on pilots to be safe.

he's gonna check the track rub right now. anybody else out there NOT have to re-jet doing this mod? we don't want to send him back to the dealer to lean out his mains if we don't have to.
