great news
good news guys. since my friend that sunk his zr900 is a volunteer fire fighter he had some pull. fire dept. brought their airboat, cold water suits and lots of man power and we got them both out. i have plenty of pics, i'll post them this week.my sled was under about 12' and his about 5'. took them right to where i work and put them in the heated shop(friends father owns the shop) we got them both running. had some help from some local guys that have sunk their sleds before so they knew what to do. tomorrow we have lots more to do, dry seats, spray cables, etc. wait until you see the pics!!! now i'll sleep better tonite!

I thought these guys said NOT to run them because of the damage it would do with silt in the engine!TimeBomb said:good news guys. since my friend that sunk his zr900 is a volunteer fire fighter he had some pull. fire dept. brought their airboat, cold water suits and lots of man power and we got them both out. i have plenty of pics, i'll post them this week.my sled was under about 12' and his about 5'. took them right to where i work and put them in the heated shop(friends father owns the shop) we got them both running. had some help from some local guys that have sunk their sleds before so they knew what to do. tomorrow we have lots more to do, dry seats, spray cables, etc. wait until you see the pics!!! now i'll sleep better tonite!![]()

Missed this until now somehow?? Anyway, 1st thing, glad you are both okay. That is #1 importance. Sled can be replaced, lives can't. 2nd, glad to hear you got the sleds out and can rest a little knowing they aren't still at the bottom of the drink. Best of luck with getting the Viper back into shape and most certainly keep us up to date on how you make out.

Cool, you got it out. Think about this, when the guys pulled it out, stirred up the water, the sled did the same when it hit bottom, there was a mud/sand/silt thing all over your sled, which you washed off, it's in your motor. it went down the carbs, it went up the exhaust pipe and into the motor through which ever exhaust port was open, the oil bath for the water pump and the oil pump drive is full of water.
I live on a set of 9 lakes and 40mi. of river that are all connected and doesn't freeze well, they drop a dozen in every weekend, this isn't the first time I've worked on a sinker. All those guys that start em up and change the seat lose a motor in the near future, generally its the crank, so you do what you want.
Like I said before if you want that seat foam you can have it.............

Wow!!!...so I'm not alone...never fear...the Vipe could live again...the S.S in my name stands for "Super Sinker"...I bought the machine thinking everything was prime...it turned out to be an insurance Job...buuut...I love it soo much I'm gunna keep it...However...I have noticed some drawbacks...but I'm workin on them now...I have
a feeling my machine was in the water for at least 1.5 seasons...it only had 210km when I got it...but I'm thinking so far either my Wiring harness is pooched or the CDI(a few glitches...)Other than that My Cat buddies are really impressed...It still goes like stink and now that I have my daughter...I get lotsa time to tinker aswell...I hope you at least stay with Yamaha if you let her go...
good luck..

update
things are looking better, started drying them out tonite. everything that could have water in it has been taking apart and cleaned and dried. biggest concern is the seat. i planned on going on a trip to quebec for 4 days starting this friday. don't know if the seat will be dry by then or not, i've got the cover off and we put it in a press(which worked really well) to get the water out. i'll know by thursday morning whether i'll be able to go to quebec or not.
as for the silt, etc. i would say that is just an opinion. i've heard the same thing. some say tear it down, others say get it running asap(either way in the end, someone will say i told you so). so MY choice was to get it running. everybody has an opinion. if my crank goes than i will deal with it but if it doesn't that is fine too. i'm just glad i'm here to have that choice

An entirely appropriate rebuttal

I'm glad it's working out for you.

1st pics
here is a couple of pics earlier sunday morning before the sled rescue started. this one is where my viper was, basically 3/4 the way across where the "open" spot is and then you can kind of see the trail of broken ice where i broke the ice and swam to shore. the nite before all of it "looked" like good snow covered ice like what is at the right.

glad to hear things are looking up! every bad situation has to get better after some time. its a matter of how you handle things before that time that really defines how bad things get. if you throw a fit, things seem worse and take longer to get better. for you, you handled things in stride. you were bumbed, but never got beaten. found the upside, and now things are looking up already
good for you, and glad for you! now get to quebec and get some good miles in! bring a tow rope just in case

to remove seat foam water, remove seat foam, place between two pieces of plywood, and drive over with truck, let sit with truck on it till water stops running. then hang on end for the night in warm area.
