"the viper submarine"

good news and bad news

well things were looking good. my viper is back together and runs good(on the stand anyway) just a few little things to finish up and the seat. my friends zr900 didn't fare as well. it won't run right, she runs rough. its pushing water out the base gasket. so his has to be torn down tomorrow. i've decided not to go to quebec just to be on the safe side. i want to get a few miles on it close to home first and our mechanic recommended changing the chaincase oil after 50 miles or so. i'm in the market for a seat. i would like a seat off a 04 blue viper if anyone knows of one for sale.
1 question- i was thinking of riding it without a seat just to get some miles on it, can i run it without the tail light hooked up? don't want to overload the electrical circuit

good for you, bad for the zr guy. hopefully things work out great for you once the miles pile on. you have snow where you are?

Mabie yor buddy will get smart and buy a viper now. lol ;)! :yam:

Have you taken your motor completely apart? I would not feel comfortable not knowing if water is sloshing around in my block, freezing at night.!

I'm glad you hear you lived to talk about all this. Let this be a message to everyone. Stay off the water ways until we get some cold weather. I heard two guys died the other day in NFLD and someone died in Thunderbay Ont the other day as well. Stay off the water ways still we get some cold weather. Its not worth it. Your friends and family want you to come home at the end of the day. I would put some extra oil in your gas for the first little while for your crank's sake.

I am in the same boat as you. Sunk mine in about 2' of water, so I was a tad luckier there. Got it out in an hour and dried it out. Started on first pull and Ran good once it was dry. However I ordered a new seat since mine had a rip.

I hope it all works out well for you. I know the shizzy feeling you get in your gut waiting to get it out and see if it runs.

got it back, in my boss' heated shop until some snow comes. i noticed driving it on the trailer that my diagnostic light is flashing 3 times slow and repeating. does anyone know what that is? i want to ride it but we need some SNOW :o| i can ride it w/out a seat. just need SNOOOOOWWWW :o| :o|

great site

i just want to say thanks to everyone that showed their concern and helped me out. alot of positive concern just like what i got from my friends and family. i've been getting alot of negative feedback from local people that heard about it (through the grapevine, read it in the paper, etc.) saying things like "what are you stupid?" "what were you thinking?" "you know what you should have done" etc. its like people think they were there or something and that they know it all about riding sleds on ice and such. even people that don't ride sleds think they know what i "should" have done. i did what i could and realized my sled was going down no matter what i did so i baled and started swimming. jack@sses saying well if it was a skidoo, etc you would have made it. blah blah blah. it doesn't matter what the hek it is, a new mach, a thundercat, whatever it was only going one way. i'm very impressed with everyone here and i thank you all. keeps a good look on the situation. :rocks:

i've got 10 miles on it(on the stand of course, NO SNOW here) and so far it seems fine. waiting on a seat and my pv cables(no water damage, just noticed they were bad during the dryin process) buddies zr9 is waiting for motor parts. wish we had some snow so i could test ride.
