Can someone tell me what the coating is on the powervalves and if it can be reapplied?Over the years the scrubbing has taken its toll and there isn't much left in places and the valves aren't otherwise bad so I really dont want to spend the $ to replace them just because the coating is wearing off.
Also does the additives like ring free(Yamaha) or Sea foam(Napa) really work?I was thinking of adding this to my schedule of fueling this year.If so how often dI need to use it?

I dump a can of Sea Foam in the last tank of every trip. This works out to about 2 cans a month. I also store ALL my gasoline powered items with Sea Foam in their tanks. Seems to help with the power valves on my Viper, as well as keeping the carbs clean. I have had zero fuel issues in the 14 yrs. I have been using this product. ! can a month goes thru my 03 Hemi Ram and my 99 Suburban. 130,000 on the Burb and 65,000 on the truck. I reccommend using this stuff for your equipment.

There's some kind of coating on the power valves? I though the thing was just cast aluminum.

I'm skeptical about there being a coating on those valves...

I use ring free and use what it says to on the bottel :) not sure about sea foam. used it in my car with good results, but no idea how much to use in the sled

I've only had them out once, but I thought they were steel??? if they are aluminum, I would say that they are anodized? I use a whole can of seafoam in a tank.

Y'know, if they are cast aluminum, it would be a great market opportunity to manufacture some billet aluminum power valves, coat them with a colorful teflon (red or blue, of course), and sell them for $200 each - "STRONGER, LESS PULL-THROUGH, LESS CARBON BUILD UP - GET YOURS TODAY".

I'll bet they'd sell like crazy. Of course, now that Yammie two-strokes are history, we may have missed the market peak...

What is Sea Foam and what exactly does it do?

YS
Naptha-based fuel stabilizer. It decreases fuel oxidation, contains some isopropyl alchohol for keeping water miscible in gasoline, and some kind Techron-like stuff to decrease combustion deposits.

the powervalves are hard anodized. They could be reanodized if you knew some place that has anodizing equipment/tanks.

that coating on those valves is polymer, same as you find on certain pistons. if it wears off it dosent really hurt the performance of the valve but you may get some oil blow by. i ran into the same thing. and no you cant recoat them.
