big big problems

lol yea, i second the other blue lightning's question.....is this somethin a weekend warrior such as myself can handle? looked throught the shop manual but it doesnt seem very helpful to me, was wondering if anybody on here had some tips. you have all been very helpful to me in the past

zap the rev was fan-cooled? i thought they were liquid thats why i wanted it over the polaris...the darn thing didnt do over 65! my yammy would have waxed it runnin on 2 cylinders lol

just an update, ill be bringing the yammy up to my shop tommorow and take the heads off, ill post some pics so i can hopefully get some more input from you guys!

another thing i've been meaning to ask......OEM or aftermarket for engine parts? and do you guys recomend anyone i could go through? keep in mind, my choices are limited locally, i have the yamaha dealer and 1 skidoo dealer that carry OEM, and another place that is strictly aftermarket

i would go with oem, yamaha pistons are well made-and the srx engine is a beautiful piece of engineering,i think its safer to use the parts originally made for it.
the only time i would recommend aftermarket parts to the srx engine is if the price difference is huge(i dont think so in this case),or if it made a big performance gain(which it wont)
sadly i dont know any good suppliers in ur area as i am living in a land far far away-under the shadow of santaclaus and putin ;):D

everyone has and opinion so I'm going to offer mine....if you know what your doing pull the motor and split the case..check the seal/replace on both mag side and the clutch side....you rode it with a trashed cylinder..it better to check than spend the cash fixing that cyclinder and find out you need something else after it is together..Also try and find the reason it trashed that cylinder....you "need" to know why! If you don't you risk trashing that cylinder again....
Just my thoughts! I hate doing things twice so its easier to just fix it right the first time!

yeah, make sure it isnt something silly like the motor sucking air somewhere so you get it back together and burn right down again. diagnose the problem, then fix its effects

Seriously listen to these last two post. Last year I bought one burned up and if i had done it myself i would have done at least twice. Dealer found dry rotted pulse line which leaned her out plus replaced 1 1/2 feet of fuel line that was on the verge. There is always a reason for burning one up.
