Alexandria - loosing snow quickly and weather to be in the mid to high 30's all week. It dont look good. I did some ridding Friday night, but its not to good up here. Ditches are like all woops, and the trails are ice
If the weather does not change you may want to leave you sled home. But if you bring it, come up to Alex and give me a ring 320-491-1221

My son and I just got back from 100 miles in the Crosby/Brainerd area. I didn't have high hopes, but we were pleasantly surprised. Snow's a little thin, but the clubs have been working pretty hard on the grant-in-aid trails and they were smooth with very little dirt showing. The Paul Bunyan trail was smooth in spots, rough in spots (^%$# DNR), and our traditional crossing place at the Mississippi River was pretty open, making for a rather dicey crossing. But actually, it was a great ride.zakstang said:anyone on the board live in central mn? ill be up at folks place wed night thru sat and hopefully there is enough snow (any for that matter) to ride a bit...there is zero snow here in rochester mn....ill be in the sauk centre/melrose area....later

isn't that the truth about trails in MN, grant-in-aid trails are better than can be expected and the dnr trails are junk - all the dnr has done this year is cry about how they don't have enough snow to groom and the swamps aren't frozen - funny how the swamps are frozen on the club groomed trails but not on the dnr trails???? I have 750 miles this year and I've driven thru about 50 feet of open water (3 feet at a time).
Drove through the Sauk Centre/Melrose area today...didn't look too promising for snowmobiling. Head a bit further east and the snow gets a bit heavier. We still have good snow here north of the Brainerd lakes area, but with the expected warm weather, I'm not expecting that to be the case here shortly.

My son (21 Y/0) goaded me onto a lake this afternoon with about 4 feet of open water at the edge. I couldn't see it from my line until I was right on it, then it was too late and I had no choice.woolyviper said:isn't that the truth about trails in MN, grant-in-aid trails are better than can be expected and the dnr trails are junk - all the dnr has done this year is cry about how they don't have enough snow to groom and the swamps aren't frozen - funny how the swamps are frozen on the club groomed trails but not on the dnr trails???? Crossing the Mississippi was interesting - it was either find a place to cross the river to the next trail system or go back all the way to Brainerd and around. We skirted the edge of the river close to the bank until we found a spot where it was frozen all the way across, then hit the throttle and don't look back. When I was younger and dumber, we thought nothing of running the length of the open areas of the Vermillion River on the way up to Crane Lake. In those days, I'd have skimmed that open area on the Mississippi without even pausing (well, maybe pausing a little...

It made me think of the days when he was just a 10 year-old kid on his Bravo, me leading him slowly along the trails. Now, I can barely keep up. In fact, I noticed today that I CAN'T keep up. My Vector is in the hunt (a ways back) up until about 80 MPH, then that piped Viper of his is just gone across the lakes. The Yammie 4-strokes are great, no doubt, but that Viper has to be one of Yamaha's greatest sleds ever.

St. Cloud has poor trail conditions 1/10
I live about 10 minutes north of St. Cloud and here I've got about 4" in my yard. Also a very active member in the local snowmobile club. Our trails are pretty much down to dirt but I still see people out there riding on them. We did drop our groomer in the swamp the first time out this season. We had to hire someone with a big excavator to help us fish 'er out.
