I was wondering what size gas tank my 96 vmax xt has. Also this sled has a 121x15 track right, One place i saw said it was a 136 or something like that,

should be the same size as mine witch is 49 liters or 10 gal give or take also your track is a 121 x 15 the 136 would be a long track but that is an extra. i had a 1994 vmax and the specs as stated above :yrules:

I had a 1996 vmax xt, bought it new. Great running sled, tons of fun, handled great, but it really sucked the gas! I had Hacker's re-tune it several times but it never improved. It think the tank was 11 gallon. Mine got about 8 mpg. :nos:

Ya my xt gets about 6-11 depending on what kinda riding i'm doing. We where up north last year and i took 3 gallons to my dads 94s 8 :) but i agree those sleds like to drink. Thanks for the info i was thinking that track was the 121. Thanks again.

Yes i belive 10 gals.

I don't know why you guys have a problem but all our older vm's get
10-12mpg depending on conditions.. and i;m not sh*ting ya ether
but ther also dialed in perfect too and all stock.

10 gallons and 121".
The XT was not available factory with the 136"
I get 10 to 13 MPH. Thinner head gasket and minor jet change helped to wake it up BIG time. Factory clutching was poor too.

I have another question now, what are the dimensions i need to align the clutches properly. The reason I ask is that I have a slight belt squeel that only occurs after the sled has moved and then stopped again and with the rs around 3-4k. we rebuilt the primary (burned out roller along w/ bushings) The secondary which is off right now is getting new ramp shoes and new bushings. I am hoping that is was not backshifting all the way which was the cause of the squeel after the clutches engaged the first time.

On a side note the sled has twin gyt pipes on it so i am happy with the gas milage not to mention the majority of the miles i have put on it have been with the burned out clutches so hopefully it goes back up.

By between clutch bolt do you mean between the bolt on the jackshaft and the outside of the clutch, as i put one more in there which made the squeel a little lighter it had some slop in there before and was squeeling with that gap in there.

there's 3 sims in the back of the sencondarys bolts you can take out, witch
will spred your clutch apart thus loosening the belt a little.

I found a great way to save fuel ... slow down a bit.... LOL big difference on my 97 500XT, dropping from 65mph cruise speed to 50-55
