Top Speed for a Venture 600

I have a 2000 Venture 600 had it out on the lakes last weekend the sled would only top out at about 125-130 kph is this normal, I figured for a 600 it would have alittle more then that 150-160, I am not looking for a rocket or anything but a little more would be nice, I know it is geared lower for heavier loads etc..Anyone have any input ..thanks

Also my passenger handlegrips (heated) are not working there is power going to the switch but thats it has anyone had this problem or worked on them maybe (Resistor)

you should normally be seeing 150-160 on the speedo, but this depends on where you were riding. Lets say somewhere that there is little snow for sliders, that will slow you down alot, or if there is loose snow, that will slow you down alot too.

For the grips, look for loose connections, there is alot of little clips that could have came undone.
 
This lake was almost perfect maybe a 1 1/2" of snow completly flat..I am going to look at the clutch..as for the heated grips what clips I looked at the setup i didn't really see any clips all the wires are slug power is running to the back I am going to replace the resistor I don't know what else to do thanks for the info
 
No problem. My friend has a 99 venture 600 and in those conditions he got that speed.

You would be so surprised how much performance you gain from cleaning your clutches, maybe try that. What I also do is lube the shaft on both primary and secondary where the part of the clutch that moves slides on. This really helps with performance. Only lube that and nothing else as lubing anything else could really screw up your clutches.

Did you already check your fuses? I also had my thumb warmer quit on me and im going to find out why, most likely just a loose connection. Let us know what happens after you change the resistor.
 
I have a 1998 Venture 600 with previous a top speed of 130 km on the lake but since I had the track replaced it now tops out at 160km. But I also have a problem with the rear heated grips, Let me know if you find the solution.

If you have a real low windshield, the wind will take all your heat away, making you think you have no heat.

Can a track make that much difference? What kind of track is it? Same lug height or more? I would have thought more lug = less speed... because of the increased weight and surface area. I could be wrong! I've got a brand new track in my garage for the Phazer. It's from Yamaha, but it's got a slightly different and larger lug on it.

Your old track was probaly set up to tight. For top speed run as loose as you can just make sure the track does not ratchet. :yam:

Keep your clutches clean is very important for performance but I don't agrre with the lube......the clutch bushings have a phenelic lining which will swell if lubed and causes the clutches to stick and wear out the bushings faster.
