I have a 91 phazer and I am going to put v max flat slide carbs on it.Can anyone help me on were to start on jetting

check to see if the 96 or 97 phazers had flat slide carbs and then use those jetting instructions....other than that ???? I wouldn't change the carbs them unless your doing something else to the motor....
On my 91 I ran either 155 or 156.8's. Needles in the middle with both washers under the clip. This was at 1000' and temps from -10 up. No airbox on it ran filters, piped, ported, thin head gasket. I'm sure I could have leaned it out a bit more, but it worked well and stayed together like that for 2 years.

What are the advantages to this besides easier tuning?

Actually ended up putting flat slide 36's on it had troubles with 38's.great throttle response.

So there is alot better throttle response with the 36's?
Is your phazer stock and if not, what mods have you done to it?
