I finally own a REAL sled. I've never had a Yamaha til now and I absolutely love the thing ;):D  I asked in another thread a few days ago what I should buy because I wasn't sure and was thinking about getting an SRX but changed my mind. This is a 2001 that they added electric start to with 4500 miles on it. I got it for $2600. I realize it's not a SRX or a RX1 or anything but I love it. :WayCool: :yrules:

it all depends on your riding style... i have an srx and wish i had gotten an sxr, the srx isn't set up for the type of riding i do, and i don't have the time to put into it to long travel it, etc.

You're gonna love that electric start! Congrats on the new sled!

Hey thanks.

Are there any "must do" mods or anything for this?

One of my favorite sayings:

Stock Rocks!

I've learned my lesson over the years... modding boat motors mostly.... leave em stock and run WFO (that's Wide F-ing Open by the way!) all day long!!!

maybe, but transfer rods are a must for these...yours has no miles, but a better track helps lots in the traction department too...other then that, if you want a worry free sled, keep it stock

Nice sled ;)! you will be all around happy with that.

I have a sxr and I recommend someday going to a 136" with 1.25 lug track with studs or 1.5" track without studs depending on your riding. Puts some anti-ratches on it and that thing will handle much nicer and wont ratchet.

Lots of mods you can do to make it better.....someday. Engine wise wouldnt touch it. Maybe a clutch kit, but thats it.

Ohlins, aftermarket ski's, handlebar risers, 136"...thats about it. HEHE ;)!

sweet sled a very good price.

there are some very sound mods that can do to this sled that will wake it up and.

check in the Tech section for turks mods for this sled.

most of the mods are cheap if not free and most who have done them have had not problems.

they include
removing a layer from the head gasket, reed notch or spacers, clutch adjustments, boring the silencer, and some some small jet changes. make a huge difference at no risk.

i have the same sled, have done all these mods and more and love this sled, wont give it up until yammi comes out with a light four stroke twin.

I agree with water; keep her stock shes fast enough man!!!! ;)! :2strokes:

Congrats on the sled, I absolutely love that year of sled, everythign was perfect on it, including the silver tunnel with blue and whit accents, and same with the trailing arms, and not to mention the twin bulb headlight, which was the first year for the SXR. AWSOME SLED!.

If you are looking to do any mods at all, go with studs. That 700 will produce alot of power and you need to get it to the ground, and studs are a big safety feature too, spun out on ice a few times without them and almost rolled the sled.

I added a ripsaw track and a m-10 suspension.I was never totally happy with the proaction even after 2 shock revalves by pioneer and lots of adjusting. It sure rides good now and the hookup of that track in all conditions is excellent.I also put an ultimax 3 belt on there, I think its a little quicker with it on there.I may do some clutching and reed work later, but I really like this sled now, good luck with yours

great sled! I loved the 01 700 sxr, my favorite. almost like it more than my vier from a looks standpoint. with a low windshield on it it is still one of the sweetest looking rides on snow :) great deal, and leave the mods for clutching and suspension (that includes track and skis!) the motors in them are nice from the factory

Here's a couple pics of it. Thanks for the replies. For now I'm gonna leave it as is. It has studs in it but I'm not sure how many. It's the original track. I may get a ripsaw eventually but for now I just want to get out and ride the thing. We need snow!!! :o|

has it been bumped in the back, under the bumper? the rear flap looks like it hangs super straight. although it may just be a mountain flap. looks like a GREAT sled! congrats again man!

I don't think it's been bumped.

I'll have to look at it closer again but I checked it over really good and didn't see any damage on it.

Congrads!!! And Happy trails!!!

OBTW Did that sxr come with snow or did you have to "special order it"???

Great sled. I owned that same sled brand new for only one season and then caught the Viper bug in 2002. If I knew what I know now, I would have just kept it. I put around 1000 miles on mine. I absolutely loved it. It rode and handled like a dream. It looked great with the blue grips and belly pan and the large letter package. It was truly the best of that motor package. It was also easier to pipe than a Viper anyday.(never did though) I also believe that particular year ran better than the other 700's of that type because it had the newer 300w magneto ignition. Yamaha claimed no more performance, but I ran a very clean 2000 and mine walked it badly. Also my brother in law had just bought the new 2001 XC600 EDGE that year with the powervalves. It was supposed to whip up on my SXR according to the hype, well it didn't. We ran them off on X-mas day of 2000 both with premix still in our fuel and my SXR pulled him by a good 3-4 lengths in 1000' every time and I weighed a good 40lbs. more than he did. After having to put new shocks and a seat on the Viper just to get the ride close to what the SXR was, I know I should have kept that sled. Hind site is 20/20 I guess.

Hey thanks again for all the replies. The more I read about it the happier I am that I got it. I cannot wait til we get enough snow to get out and put some miles on it. So far I've only been able to ride it around in a small field but this rain we've been getting put an end to that. :die: RAIN ;):D

I am looking at buying this sled too. I am trying to decide between it and 2002 SRX. It should be an easy decision if I knew my riding style but I don't since this is my first sled.
I like to go fast, I know both of these sleds will take care of that addiction.
My concern is if I will be able to keep up to a newer MXZ800 (2004-2005). My neighbour and I are planning on each buying one either this season or for next and he likes the Doo's.
