viper with tripple/strong as srx?

Viper with pipes vs srx

A viper with pipes which has better port timing stock than a srx will be stronger than a srx stock. If both sleds are ported then they should be pretty much the same for performance.

The srx should be quicker........My cpr viper feels like it has more topend..............but the srx skid is faster.
Once winter comes back, :o| :o| I will run the viper on radar and see.

We put slp's on a 03 viper w/recommended jetting and clutching parts it runs really good. With comparable tracks and studs are almost wore out on both machines, the viper jumps out in front at first, aftermarket rods help here though. But about at 70 the old trusty 02 srx will reel it in and the viper is always behind it at 100, the faster you go the bigger the beating the vipe will get. There is a can on the srx, WWW pri. 48/40, geen sec. the clutch work didn't seem to help it much though.
 
My 02' viper with bender triple pipes/clutch kit and MP billet head ran 1 sled length ahead of my buddys SRX with clutch kit and bored carbs with a decked head. Very consistently. Everyone told me when the viper came out that it would not hang. My viper would also beat my buddies 05' warrior. These motors when set up correctly can be very potent!
 
I wonder what the difference is? We have raced alot, different days, temps, distance, lake, road, packed trail, field. Always same results. If it was a race to 80 the vipe would have it most of the time.
 
srxmagic....bingo, the skidframe on a srx has no where near the drag of the long travel units.

The piped viper has more hp and is lighter then a srx, so if a srx is beating you, ya need to do some tuning/clutch work. Also, the vipers geared 22/38, a srx 23/38, its gonna have more topend, you have to compare apples to apples here, make both sleds the same skids, gears, etc and the viper wins, sorry you srx guys, been there done that.
 
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the SLP's are great pipes, but not the fastest made for it. When talking drag racing, I think the CPR's are tops on the Viper. Hauck used to sell the CPR's as Hauck pipes. He told me his piped Viper would outrun his well prepped 2001 SRX at the time when I was in his shop a few yrs. ago.

Man put some helix to that viper at LEAST a 53/47 with a short track...I run a 56/46 with my 159x 16" and a roller sec. and you will kill that srx..had both sleds.02 dump the green and run the silver sec spring with this.......03
 
Has anyone ever experimented with windshield height on a viper? This 03 has the tall one, stock. Seemed like when I put a tall one on my srx it took some off the top, didn't try back to back runs though. And if it was geared one up on top would it be noticeable?
 
Thanks for answer! I have a short track on my sled and a guy on a norwegian tuning firm (hsperformance.no) recomended me this set up: Hauck orange, 8dn10 with 3,2grams in both holes, yamaha silver secondary and 50/45 helix.

He is very experienced in tuning and clutch set up on yamaha and have done this many years. What do you think about this set up?

Driving condition: from sea level up to 600ft

Wow, it looks like I shouldn't even enter in this convo. all I have is a wee little 600, and stock vipers just won't cut it, then again there is no one around here with pipes. :wink: :wink: :wink:
 
Just had to reply

M2C....Did the bender pipes for 600 miles, burndown waiting to happen!
Ran CPR's for 3000 miles, good power, terrible mileage.
Switched to SRX pipes and cdi, This thing rocks! Just as fast as the CPR's and I actually have some piston wash, which makes me feel better! Trust me a stock SRX is a way better setup than any triple pipe setup with the viper CDI.
