Super tuned? 123 hp out of a 700 is super tuned? Plenty of hp 90% of the time but sometimes I'd like a little more. My buddy's stock 2000 SX700R with 8000 miles is dead even with mine, I find that a little disappointing. Still like the Viper better than the SXR, but it sucks his sled will run with mine all day.

Whoa, you need some tuning. My bro in law has one of our old 700's (non valved) used to be my Dad's and I wax it bad. Nice sled, just won't run with mine up top.

I'll let you know how my Dad's XTC does when I get back from our trip - I'm afraid it's going to smoke my buddy's SXR and my Viper!

I won't have time to wrench on the Viper til next week.

Thanks again.

My Dad had the 1998 700 XTC-P with the factory 1.5" track and plastic skis. It flat out ripped off the line. Of course the top end went flat around 90mph but it sure got there fast. My 2001 SX-R with a 1.25" Predator track would take it by a couple lengths though. As I mentioned my bro in law has the 1998 and it still runs great, but it can't handle our Vipers. Dad and I have two identicle Vipers setup with 1.25's and they both smoke the 1998. Some Vipers are not as strong though. For the heck of it check your compression. Ours are 130/145/145 give or take a hair. I have heard some with alot lower numbers.

Those numbers seem pretty high to me.

there can be a lot of variation between different gauges. Now there will always be stronger ones and weaker ones from the factory but a lot of it could also be attributed to the gauge used.

I don't have photos of the XTC-P (powder). It is the same black XTC as any 1998 but came stock with the 1.5" camo track with the wide windows for hyfax removal. It also had the slightly wider Yamaha plastic skis of that year. It was a spring model only not in the brochures. I saw it at the MPLS show that year and knew my Dad was ordering the 700 XTC, so I told him to get that one for only $200 more.
I have two compression gauges, they both read the same on both sleds.
My setup is Heavy Hitters, stock helix w/ Silver sec. spring @ 60deg.

All interesting J-Man. My dad's has 51/43 Helix, stock weights w/4.5g rivet in 1st hole and 3.1g in tip, stock springs, 1 or 2 layers removed from head gasket and 22/40 gearing. Jetting: 142.5 mains. I'm hoping to "bore" the silencer tomorrow. If I have time.

journeyman, sweet! guess that is why I never heard of it, never in the brochures. he still have it? must be rare, lik ethe original warrior ;)

Does anyone know???

51/43 Helix, stock weights w/4.5g rivet in 1st hole and 3.1g in tip, no engagement shims, stock springs, 2 layers removed from head gasket and 22/40 gearing. Jetting: 142.5 mains - I was wondering if you knew if I would need to run different jetting than the 142.5 mains if I were to do the silencer boring or if it should be allright?

Thanks
