sx 700 overheating again

I rode my sx 700 a few weeks ago in about a three inch snow. I drove it about two miles and it was overheating. I brought it home drained the antifreeze, installed new and bled the air out of the system. I tested the sending unit and it tested ok. I left it run outside the shop for about 30 minutes and it was running hot again. I tore into the water pump to check the impeller. It was missing one fin. I replaced the impeller and seal to rule that out. I replaced the headgaskets to be on the safe side. I thought maybee the broken fin was lodged in pone of the heat exchangers so I put a vacuum cleaner on each exchanger and pulled a vacuum on both sides of each exchanger. found nothing. When the temp light comes on the head temp is about 210 degrees. The top hose temp is about 165 degrees. Getting frustrated. Supuse to go riding in the U P later this week. Does anyone have any input? :yrules:
 
your lucky you didn't melt your motor down letting it run for a half hour.with out snow on the heat exchangers to cool the coolant down it will over heat.the exchangers work differant than a radiator of a car.even if the sled is moving it can over heat it needs the snow on the coolers to cool the motor down.thats is why when you are riding on just ice your sled will over heat.wait till a good snow fall and try the sled again there might not have been enough snow on the coolers to cool the motor down

yup, had that experience last night...sat on the side of the river like a retard for about 15 minutes..luckily no one went by lol
 
sx overheating.

Thanks for the input guys. I didnt think it needed snow to cool. I have rode it on ice before without a problem. I didn't think the engine could overheat just idling with no load

yes it can if run long enough.

also you can melt your hyfaxs too if run on ice or hard packed long enough
always make shure you get in some powder once an awile to cool things
down. ;)!
