He didn't say anything about piped or clutched sleds. Are these both stock sleds that you are asking about?

Apples to Apples!
A stock SRX 600 will beat a stock SX 700
and
A properly setup SRX 600 Will beat a properly setup SX 700
To answer his question: The SRX will win. period

I have what I think is a good running 700sx, (thanks turk) and I have lined up with a 600 srx, put the smack on it to 90mph, took a while for him to get around, I think my 1 1/2 in. track slowed me down a bit, his eyes were really big, and he never thought it would happen, did I say thanks turk. now I have the head done, and a set of reeds, shes snappy boys, shes snappy.

So gentleman, i am still not clear as to my question. Is adding a shaved head gasket and reed spacers a must for my sx 700 and will it kill reliability. Also do i have to re-jet to make up for these two mods.

reed spacers are a must, and the head gasket mod(now that i've done it) is a must as well...as for jetting i'm not sure, cuz i'm piped and my jetting was already richer then needed...just remember to run premium or it'll ping...since doing those 2 mods tho, the sled is alot snappier

What were saying is ; you mod the sx and mod the srx as much as you can ,the sx will come out on top! In other words you can make an sx out run an srx!.... period! 600 srx -that is. 700 maybe a diff story, but were not talkin bout a 700 are we. But yes ,stock for stock.....srx will anilate the sx!

With the thinned head gasket, and the reed spacers, would I need to run premium? I know that is a must for shaved heads, but wasn't sure about the thinned gasket.

I took out the middle layer only, and I run only premium gas, just inspect the gasket before you stick it back togather any ware marks and you should get new gaskets, turned my sled over to 4400 miles and have had no problem at all, just miles of smiles, I can run with 700 srxes but they beat me every time just fun to see their eyes when I run close for a while, because of my track I usually holeshot them but they still pass me easy.

my track is a 1.4 skidoo summit 121 soft compound with angled lugs works very good. I have a set of transfer rods but never installed , I just don't need them.

I know who will win. I have a stock sx700 (97) and my bud has a 98 600 SRX (triple triple)
I take him from the hole and top end. I don't know if I got lucky and have a faster than average 700sx or his is a dud. He had it back to the dealer twice as he and I thought it should take mine. They checked the jets, clutch and crank, all were fine. The only difference is he has studs and I don't. (I loose on ice)
I can hit 109 on a road. On hard pack lake maybe 103 range. Mine is stock so is his. I raced a clutched 700 SRX and no matter what I did (jump off the line 1st) he would pull away steady from start to finish. I don't get stomped to badly for a stock sled. I imagine if I put triples on it I could keep up with the 700srx. The 600SRX would be toast though.
The 700SX does everything better than the 600sx, out handles, faster, cheaper lighter etc. The 700SRX is nice but I think the 600 is a rip off since the SX700 (97 red one) is better in all departments.
Mine rides like a cadillac vs the SRX. The SRX has a very harsh ride vs the SX. I would put a soft SX spring in it to save on the back.

with a 600? I top out at 109, but I get there quick, when I did the gear change, I thought I would loose top end but I really think it's better than before.

700 SX WILL RUN WITH A 700 SRX LET ALONE A 600. YOU GUYS REMEBER THE GRASS DRAGS IN 98. THAN IT WAS 700 SINGLE PIPE. 700 TRIPLE PIPE !! WELL GUYS WOULD RUN THOSE 700 sx,s RIGHT THROUGH 800. AND BE VERY COMPETIVE. I KNOW, I DID IT WITH MINE. 700 SX ROCKED. !! 3:16 (tony)
