Suggestion Roller Secondary

I've read some great things on this Forum, so I think I'll try my question.

So I picked up a 04 SX Viper Mountain, it has the Bender Triple pipes on it, and 8CA01 weights, and a Pink,Pink,Pink Spring in the Primary, and the secondary wrapped at 70deg. The sled runs awesome. I did have a tuner locally ride it, and the only problem he found was after highmarking a hill he had backed out of the gas a bit to get it headed back down then he had to burp the throttle to get the front end over a hump of snow, he said there was a slight hesitation when he hit the throttle again. he said that this has to do with the backshifting on the secondary, and that a Roller Secondary will help clean that up.

So I am verifying that information, as well as possibly looking for the best Roller secondary solution out there.

I live in Utah, about 7000-10000 ft riding, Mountain riding I know there is a great company here, and I have been there many times called Mountain Performance. However, I am not sure if their Roller solution is the best, so I am asking.

I Prefer a bolt on solution if possible so I can take it off, but I am also considering a Machining solution.

Call Tom Hartman at Hartman Inc. Tom has done extensive testing of the Team Roller Secondary on Yamahas, and he should be able to provide you with a recommendation but also supply you the clutch.

He will ask you a miriad of questions on your current setup so be prepared!!

I'm running a Team Roller on my 2001 SXR600 and love the way it backshifts.

The 8ca weights kinda suck for backshifting. I would be using 8dn-20,s . Their profile is more mountain friendly; less aggressive & will backshift way better. As for a roller look at a Roller rooster from advant-edge with about a 41/35 helix.

Turk, what kind of riding do you do?

What is the difference between the 8DN-10, and 8DN-20? Is this weight change something I should do in addition to the roller secondary?

How do the helix angles work, and compare to the stock setup?

do you know how the Roller Rooster compares to Mountain Performances setup for Roller Secondary?

I ride in the mountains but only once or twice a year(revy) 8dn-10,s will work also. Tune the primary with either 8dn-10 or 20,s & play with helix,s to get a little more out of it. Most of your tuning is done in the primary then you can play with the secondary to see if you can gain a little more. I had good luck running around a dual angle helix with a silver secondary spring at 60 degrees to get good backshift & increase track speed. Those 8ca,s are what us flatlanders like to use for drag racing.
