hey i have a 2000 sxr 700 with 144 studs, stock .92 track, reed spacers, silencer mod, and jetted down one size on mains and one size on pilots, i have also removed one layer from the stock head gasket just wondering if i would benefit from removing a second layer and if this would hurt my reliability i run it on premium 91 octane but the odd time i can only get regular . just want to know if i'm gonna burn it down if i take another layer out and if it's worth the risk. right now i have a about 132 PSI across all the cylinders this about right with one layer removed? anything else i can do to this thing to squeeze some more out of it. Looking for a clutch kit next if anyone has one for sale or a good cluth setup suggestion if anyone has one for this mod combination. thanks

the stock head gasket on the sxr is 3 layers of metal riveted together by removing one of those layers or 2 it's like shaving your heads because now the head gasket is thinner so your head sits farther down on the cylinder and is closer to the top of the piston at top dead center this increases your compression resulting in more power

no the srx has rubber o rings as gaskets and nothing can be done with them the only way to get the same results would be to actually shave the heads dunno if that works never done it on my srx

yes the heads can be shaved on srx's for more power as well, around .030 on the 98-99's for general trail riding. Can also add an extra base gasket two raise the ports for better top end on the 98-99's. Careful on the 00-02's, they are a little tighter than the 98-99's, so you can't take as much off the heads safely.
