I just loaded my sleds on the trailer for next weeks trip and on my wifes 1999 Venture XL I noticed a crack on the rear suspension slide rail just ahead of the cross shaft that the front shock of the rear suspension bolts to. I looked at the other side and a very small crack is starting to develop there too. I am looking at almost $200.00 per rail plus installation!

Has anyone had a similar situation? I was thinking of having the rails welded but I am unsure if that would work for the long term.

I am open to all ideas and suggestions.

I had one of my rails welded this year. I haven't had a close look at since I came back from Munising, but I think it should hold up. Make sure the cross shaft is straight.

I had to weld both of mine up before riding last year. I road 500+miles last year and the welds have held up so far.
This year i had to replace the left rail on my wifes machine (95 vmax LE). Her's had the ear that holds the frt shock support ripped right off.
I was able to find a donor skid for each machine. I will ride mine until the crack opens up again and them swap the rails out.
It sucks I know. been there. :(

Thanks for your valuable suggestions crewchief47 and caravanman! I am taking my rear suspension to a guy who does the update welds to the Honda GL1800 aluminum frames in my area. This guy is the best.
