MN98VMAX do yourself a favor and find some used plastic skis (or buy new if that's your inclination) for your sled! Those skins have very little keel compared to a set of decent plastic skis. I had the same ski you do when I bought my Max.... you won't believe the handling difference with a good keel on your ski! Especially on loose packed trails and powder... not to mention they are a couple pounds lighter than those metal skis.

Ok, my problem is picking a ski! There are over a billion (ok, maybe a little exageration) ski's out there, how do you pick one???????

Thanks!
Mike

I bought a compleat pair off e-bay from a '05 rx-1 brand new 0 miles still had the paint on the wear bars for $177.

REDMATER, I have an aftermarket pair of skis (USI VX-301) and they came with theyre own stopper, but it doesnt look that much different than the stock one with a "J" which came with my stock steel skis. Do you think the 98 SRX stoppers will work with my skis?

Mike...if you want a simple, true "bolt on" solution, then use the stock Yamaha plastic skiis that came on sleds like the Mountain Max for the same year...they bolt right on and are a huge improvement over the steel ones.

I put a set on my wife's 1998 V-Max 500 and they work fantastic. Did not require any modifications to fit. Price is also better than most aftermarket.

jack the front of the sled up and see if the skis tip down, the other thing is check your carbides for uneven wear.I dont see why the srx stopper would not work.the gyt-r skis were made by usi, very similar to the tunnel blades.

Ok, this may be a REALLY dumb question, but how do I know what skiis will fit my sled? Or will any newer Yamaha ski fit?

Thanks guys!

if your looking for skis for your '98 7 any Yammie plastic ski should fit

Hey Red, I started with plain bumpers, then went to S bumpers, and would up with the plain bumpers and a fairly thick shim for my combination. The S bumpers led to a darting situation for the SXR sleds with lighter riders, even some heavier ones!

The S bumpers were a half way fix unfortunately. Yamaha could have done it right!

Also, when setting them up, look at the front edge of your TURNING carbide, not the front of the wearbar, just to be clear.

Good luck guys!
