gang we had a great time with our more than accomodating hosts dan and carole at sled north (www.slednorth.com) in manitouwadge. although dan was telling us the snow was a little light, we did find more than enough to play and ride trails for several days.

we arrived friday about 230am trying to beat an incomming weather system that gave the area about 3-4 inches of fluff to help the good base they had started.

unloaded and trail rode to hillsport hilton to see gary dorian on friday, under cloudy skies we found the trails to be in good shape albiet alittle light on snow in some areas. but over all above avg conditions. ended our trail day with 100 miles under our butts. gave us a good shake down run for the sleds and us.

saturday dawned bright and sunny and crisply cold. dan and carole guided us off the beaten paths to bush, and trappers trails only touching a few real groomed trails, stopping along the way to play in bowls and ditches. awesome day topped with lunch at the hillsport hilton, and dinner at home at the sled north ranch. total 100 miles mostly offtrail. if you ride offtrail you know 100 miles is like 2-300 on the trails as far as how you feel at the end of a hard playing day.

sunday was another guided day to manitou falls area playing, brushing and a bonfire for a trail snack. on the way home they took us to a lookout point that has a super view of the entire town and area. later that night was grilled fillet mignon at home. total miles just over 60 not a big day but after the saturday fun fest i needed a light day LOL!

we decided although having tuesday off to drive home on monday to avoid yet another large system comming in that we would have to drive through to get home.

for our first time exploring the area we had a great time. the hosts were awesome and highly recomended. their residence you stay at is within a mile of the resturant (we took our food and cooked in each night) within a mile of gas, and trails just outside the door.

the house will sleep up to 10 it is roomy, home like and rigged for sledders. there is a "drying room" downstairs. this room was made and designed to dry and store your gear so it is ready for the next time asap. the room has church pews to get dressed and undressed, a dehumidifier to dry the air and clothes, heat and a fan to move the air. it was quite the set up and very impressive.

if you are looking for a good area, good snow, great accomodations and hosts. get ahold of these people or pm me and i'll help get you in touch. here are some pics from the weekend, may not be dial-up safe as the files are large, they are hosted on a friends server. more pics will be added. stay tuned.

dan, carole THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOU DID FOR US! Eric and the gang.

Looks like great fun Eric, missed you guys at Muni but can't blame ya for going on up. Who all was with ya?

BallZ!,

The pics on that page were taken with an Olympus E-Volt E500. It was the maiden voyage with the camera, so I'm still learning with it... It definitely takes some freakin' spectacular pics!

Bear in mind the pics posted were shrunk down from original size quite a bit as well. So far, I'm mucho happy with it!

Back to the Topic, that was a great trip, with great friends, with some great hosts! Kudos to Dan and Carole for really taking care of us!

Here are a couple of links to the SHQ pics: (these are huge, broadband recommended)

Ding,

Attendees were The Three Ski's, The Mook's, KennyPope and Laurie from over on Dootalk, and Mark and Kayla (I think you may have met Mark on the TY Ontario ride from a few years ago maybe?)

Great Trip, I would highly recommend to anyone that is thinking of spending time in Manitouwadge, that they spend the time at SledNorth, and talk Dan into showing them the sights. I pulled a MAJOR bonehead move when prepping my GPS for the trip on the third morning and lost my tracks from the previous day. There was some great data on there, and POOF, it was gone... :(

It looks like you had a great time! Nice pics too... ;)!

Eric- What is it about 10hrs from mid-michigan?

adam, yes it is just about like driving to baraga 10-12 depending on roads and border times. alot more snow, alot more remote wilderness riding, and ALOT LESS PEOPLE! ski

i know the lookout you are talkin about. my aunt and her daughter took me and my brother up there last year between christamas and new years. wasnt much snow when we went but we had fun kickin around town and on lake.

Looks like you all had a good time. This is the second year now without riding with you guys; hope to not make it three in a row. Sure wish I could have made it, but, well, you know.... Nice pics! Someone sure knows how to make tracks in the deep! Any dents in Mookster's sled yet? Did Mark melt his hyfax to his track? Kayla start any fires? Just kiddin' on all three....
