I am finally finishing a project that I started about 10-12 years ago. It is a 1990 Exciter with all kinds of mods and new parts. I'm going to focus this post on the engine mods because I need help with the clutching. Maybe some of you guys will have some old notes.

--stock bore and pistons
--PSI single pipe
--PSI lake/race porting
--PSI head mod (about 130-135 cranking psi)
--cold air kit
--carbs off center bored to 39.5
--pipe, y-pipe, pistons and combustion chambers ceramic coated
--crank trued, balanced and welded by Falacon (FL) They took a lot of material off. (pork choped it) Hope that was not a mistake with the vibration problems Exciters were known for. I did not know they would remove so much metal. I did add a PSI harmonic balancer.

Now for the clutching.... I modified the secondary for a wide belt (cut helix where snap ring goes) and the primary is a Comet 108 EXP. Does anybody have a clutch set up that would work for me? I have searched the archives and found some setups for stock Exciters but not for a ported/piped one.

:2strokes:

Thanks

I have a 93 SX, and I just put in the newer YVX secondary in there from a 96 Vmax 600.

Very good increase in backshift... power is "right there" when ya need it.

Has a 39* helix and a green spring. 800 told me about the YVX trick. Don't see why it wouln't work on an older Exploder.

What RPM does PSI recommend for the porting and all the goodies?

I am interested also. I have a 94 VMAX 600 ST that takes the old style helix with limited tuning options. Did you have to change jackshaft? What mods if any had to be done?

95 - 96 bolt right on.

You need :

1- M14 X 1.5 X 2" bolt
1 - stock Exciter SX bolt bushing
1 - stock Vmax bolt bushing.

You stack 2 bushings, and use the longer bolt. Works VERY well!

Alignment is perfect, backshift is now awsome.

I wonder how a Polaris primary would work with newer style secondary?

I will know as soon as I can get some damn weights for my P-85...

The 94 VMAX has the same "older" secondary style.

well the secondary from a 95 96 would be OK also, this got passed me, I was looking at a 96 phazer, it has the correct secondary as well as the correct hardware. So a pogo stick PZ with late clutches will be the ticket, not a trailing arm PZ.

As for this exciter, well taxing the memory again, if you go to a 108 and widebelt the secondary, try A54's with a polaris red, 45 degree helix, wrapped A2. Also, the first thing you need to do is gear it down, 90's I think came 17-31? Go right to 17-33, you're trying to shift that big clutch and it just ain't gonna work with stock gears.

A polaris primary will not work with the old secondary, the angles are all wrong,

Hey any of you guys with these old bones got a MINT jackshaft for a 87' EX? I'm going to take the clutches off my 87' and install 96 clutches, it has a conversion shaft in it if any one wants to put an arctic sec on

I have a 96 Secondary coming for my 94 VMAX do I need any special bolts shims spacers etc? Pretty excited about updating clutching. Gonna rebuild primary also.
