Anyone know what could be causing this? I have a 2000 SXR 600 5,000 miles, the last two weekends riding, my engine would just quit while riding. This happen four times during a 400 mile run. I think its electrical. It does not happen to offten, when it does, the engine shuts down just like if you hit the kill switch. A few times the engine cut out and pick back up again with out stalling. After comming to a stop, she starts right back up. My temp light has been coming on also, I thought this was due to hard packed trails and lack of snow. After finding some power the light goes off. However, today the temp light came on right away after starting it. It does have coolant in the system. Can anyone comment on this?

Thank's!!!

That thing sounds familiar. Last weekend a friend of my father was out driving an Aircooled Ski-doo 500 Touring. He was driving at about 60km/h and the engine quit on him 3 times that day.. Started right back up except that last time. When he got the sled home and took the head away one of the pistons was gone. Im not sure what caused it. Maybe little too lean or/and driving steady at same speed for too long distances, causing more heat so that the pistons get damage? Anyway, the only thing damaged was one piston. But driving a little bit faster when it quits would probably damage something else.

Anyway, this was a little Doo. Experienced a little Deja Vu when I saw your story.

SNOMO,

Have you pulled your wire harness out from under your motor?? Sounds like the harness has worn through.

Pull it out from under the motor and inspect and retape any wires that are worn. I would have to put money on it that this will be your problem.

Happen to my friends SRX this season and my SX was worn but not all the way through. My friends SRX did not quit but the headlight had a mind of its own and towards the end of the day his ignition would quit for less than a second at times, never did turn the sled all the way off though.

Sled just dies & starts back up

I also had the same problem on my 02 Viper overheating. I have also heard many other people with this problem. To take care of that problem everyone I talked to installed a rear heat exchanger. I don't know if there is one installed from the factory on your's or not.

As far as the engine cutting off & on I had a problem like this. It turned out to be a connector slowly coming apart. It was located right behind the right louver panel just above where you put your right foot.

My brother's '97 500 would run for a while, and then the temp light would start yelling at him. He'd shut it off, but it wasn't running hot. Start it up and go again for about 10 minutes. Dealer tried a couple things, but still did it. I checked his plugs, and he was running B9ES instead of BR9ES. He put the BR9ES back in, and it quit doing it! Ski doo's CDI box will go into default and shut down the motor after a minute if the resistance in the circuit is wrong (non resistor plugs). Maybe yamaha's electronics does something when the non resister plugs make it seem like something is wrong. Might not be your problem, but something to tell your buddies about.

stutter

try colder plus, like br7es. and check stator for shorts with ohm meter.
i don't have spec but someone here should. sounds like a puzzler :?

I am pulling my frickin hair out!!!

Guys, I still can not find this problem!!! I pulled the wire harnes out and checked the entire harnes and found nothing. I check all connectors for shorts or loose fittings. Disconnected the TORS at the carb and pluged the wires together. Disconnect both white plugs under the handle bar pad which go to the TORS and kill switch within the throttle. I disconnected the Temp sensor plug.

My engine will shut off just like you hit the kill switch even with all this disconnected. Engine will stall sitting at a idle and one pull and away I go. When this happens while riding, I must come to a complete stop after coming to complete stop pull the cord and she starts right back up and away I go. Not sure what to do now, I am ready to take it to the dealer! :o|

HELP!!!!!

I am pulling my frickin hair out!!!

One other thing, the temp light comes on even when the plug is disconnected. I followed those wires back to the CDI box and no shorts or anything.

I am wondering if it's something in the CDI box!!!! If it happens intermiten not sure how to check that.

one thing, a br7 is HOTTER than a br8, which is hotter than br9, etc. NGK is backwards like that, don't want you to burn down

I had the exact same thing two weeks ago. Check your fuel tank vent line under your hood. It is an aluminum fitting that popped out. I could smell fuel while I was riding and sled kept cutting out and then coming back just like you described. It is located behind airbox at the top of the tank.

i think that the plugs comment is wrong, DON'T TRY BR7ES, they are hotter running plugs and will cause you nothing but expensive problems. correct me if i am wrong. eithert way i would see no value in running those plugs

Maim , br7es's are a hotter plug! a colder plug would be a br10 es
