1994 v-max Wont go over 35mph, sometimes

Ummmm, I think you really need a primary overhaul. I'm pretty sure that bushing should be in the clutch cover, not floating there. As the sheave moves in, it goes off center cause of the missing bushing and then stops when it hits the bushing and won't move in any farther. The times when it 'works' better, it probably slides back over the bushing, allowing the sheave to close further. That roller looks like it's fubar as well.

Is this something I should just let a dealer do?

And also. How di I get the darn clutch off? O got the bolt off and hit the thing with a mallet, do i need a puller of some sort?

That is for sure your problem. It is the bushing for the moveable sheeve. It binds when not in there. You need a special puller to get the clutch off. It might be on there really tight. Might be money ahead to take it to the dealer. Maxdlx
 
Yep, you'll need a puller. If the primary is in this shape, the secondary may not be far behind. If you start a new thread asking for help, you MAY get someone local to you with all the tools and experience to come give you a hand, but don't expect it. This all depends on how much you want to spend on that sled. If it were me, complete rebuild. If you decide to just do bits and pieces, item numbers: 6,7,8,10,11,15,16,18,26,28,30 are all wearing items.

follow the three steps at the top. "Primary sheave" will give you the item numbers from above, "clutch kit alternate" item #24 is a rebuild kit and gives you parts to rebuild the rollers plus the two bushings. It does not include the spider slides or weight bushings/parts. I'd be concerned about the flyweights from the look of those rollers.

If you don't get a hand from someone here, you may be better off having the dealer look at it. You'll probably need him to seperate the spider any way(specialized tool).
The $$$ could add up quick, depending on how far you go, make sure you price all the options, including a good used clutch.
 
find a good used clutch or buy a comet 108exp....this will be cheaper that yamaha part cost

Would probably ask for better pics on both of those, at least a shot of the rollers. You may have to change the weights in either of those to get them to work right in your sled. As to them fitting on your 94, I THINK they will but I don't know for sure, so please don't take my word for it. Someone else will hopefully chime in.

I didn find on on ebay, calle dthe guy its from the same sled I have for 125$ and the rollers and some components have been replaced on it jsut last season. he is parting out the sled. so I am going to pick that up and probally the secondary one as well, and just do them both!

This sled must have been bad from the start its been a dog since i have had it, I just assumed it was b/c it was so heavy.

What top end can i expect out of this sled?

Read Turk's post in that thread. Just FYI, since you've sourced a replacement.

My 93 Exciter SX used to hit 98 MPH on the dream meter with an Aaen pipe on it. I don't remember ever having to wait for the 94 Vmax 600's in our group. The biggest thing holding them back is the track, greasy as hell. I would love to try one of the 94's with a ripsaw on it(if they fit). It should pull like any other 600 class sled of the same era.

You have got a lot of good info on your clutch issue. But have you changed your plugs? I had the same problem with my 94 V Max (35mph max) after I put new plugs in. I thought I blew a piston but I just had a fouled plug.

I had the same problem with my V-Belt position in my secondary sheave. I replaced my 3 Ramp shoes in my secondary. One Ramp shoe was completly gone. (cheap and easy to do). Belt sits in the secondary perfect (2mm below sheave) and runs like a raped ape now, 95mph stock.

First thing I tried was plugs (did this 2xs on the trail) tried new belt as well.

Just won 2 new (used but good shape) clutches on ebay total of under $170 for both and shiped to my house. Not bad, and prob pay more to rebuild mine.

Now... to find a puller!!! :)
 
Ah, hey thanks! I owe ya all a round of brews!!

Does that puller pull both clutches? Or do I even need a puller for the other one?

No need for a puller for the secondary. You may want to do a search in the forums for primary or drive clutch puller, sometimes the clutch doesn't like to come off easily, and there are somes tips and tricks floating around here.

EEEk, Looks like I want a GOOD puller! and well may need to bust out the torch too I guess... Hummm Ill try assume the worst, hope for the best!
