So I take a 1997 MM and change the tunnel, roll the chain case, buy a mesh hood, a Boss seat, triple pipes, a 162" track, a cat skid, porting, V-force reeds, NOS and every lightweight front end part available. I'm dreaming of 485 lbs and big horsepower. Finally get a chance to weigh it. Bear in mind that it is full of fuel, oil and antifreeze. I figure the weight of the liquids to be about 70 lbs. I wish I had never taken it to the scales. 640 lbs. Geez, what did it weigh before I started. Dealer said the advertised weight of the sled was 515 lbs. I thought 460 - 480 would be easy. Yikes. I don't think I will dyno it. I'd rather not know the hp.
 
there is no way you gained weight? thats crazy if you did tho... its probally from that 162 tho how much did the stock track and skid weigh?
 
From a quick search... your sled weighed approx 473lbs dry (which seems very light, but whatever). It's got an 11.7 gal gas tank, which adds 76lbs full. Factor in at most another 8lbs of fluids, you're at 557. Adding in your track, which weighs approx 13lbs more than stock, and you're at 570. Two more pipes, maybe 10lbs... 580. The skid... who knows, 5 lbs heavier? You're still only at 585, which doesn't even take into account everything you lightened up. If you went with the figure you had for the starting weight (515lbs)... you'd be at 627 before all the weight saving...

What kind of scale was it? (as in how accurate do you really think it was). You weren't standing on it were you? (stupid question i know, but... if you weigh 170lbs... 640-170 = 470lbs)

Thanks Jigg. Its got me puzzled. The hood saved 20lbs. The skid saved 30 lbs. The 162 track weighs more since the original was a 136. The front end saved 12 lbs. The seat saved 3 lbs. The NOSS added about 15 lbs and the triple pipes weigh a little more than the stock pipe and silencer. The scale was the local grain elevator. They seemed to know what they were doing. Geez, they should. I can't be part of the weigh in. I weigh 240. Take 240 off 640 and theres no way I got it down to 400 wet.
 
Any chance the grain elevator can be off by 100lbs? What increments do they usually measure grain in? Tons?

There's no way you're at 640 even if your sled started at 515.
 
they weigh it on the truck scale or on a feed bag scale? if it is a truck scale I would go out on a limb and say the scale isn't calibrated below a couple thousand pounds...

If it was on a truck scale, don't worry those things aren't very accurate for measuring something such as a snowmobile. But when you're weighing somethings that is several tons, a couple hundred pounds doesn't make much difference. ;)!
 
I will be back in Cooke City the week of Feb 6th. I'm told that the Exxon has a suspension scale. I think I might see if I can get it weighed there. Thanks for the comments all.
 
As per, 3 bath scales are pretty accurate. 1 under each ski and the other under the track with a 2x4 turned edge ways so you can read the #. Add the 3 together. should be real close. My mm w/151, stock skid, half tank of fuel was 529 on race car scales. You shouldn't be over 500, maybe.

The starting weight is not the advertized 515...try 542...Did the same thing *** you and cried when I saw the numbers after
 
I would guess that number is pretty close. It appears to me that you are throwing more weight on then then you are taking off. The total losses you have are 20 + 6 + 12 assuming the number were accurate in the weight loss. You are at 38 pounds off. I bet you pretty much made half if not more of that weight up with the skid and track alone. Then you threw on 15 pounds of nitrous which lets just say you are back to stock weight now. Then you throw on your triple pipes which I am not sure of the weight difference. You have 80-85 pounds of liquids in the sled if the tank is topped off. Then the 540 pound sled you started with. That number is probably pretty close. Sorry
 
Well it purely academic. Sled was stolen last Friday night. We had the trailer loaded and locked in a compound. 6 am Sat and there it was....gone. Also lost a new Apex and a two year old Rev. Took my wifes stock 2000 mm on the trip and got my butt kicked.
