I have a 700 1998 V-MAX XCT, after I got back home I noticed something. I was looking around the sled just checking things out . I opened the hood and looked under where the carbs are and noticed what looked like oil but I don't think it is. It looks like there is a small round tube that comes down from the area where the oil and coolant tanks are. The tube seems to be black. The tube seems to go straight down, it doesn't seem to long. I am not a mechanic at all. The machine is running fine and I did not burn or lose any oil. Any help would be great guys. Thanks Diceman

I have a 97 SX 600 twin & there is over flow tubes on mine!
Thanks for the replies. Is there an overflow on the oil tank? Maybe this is what I am seeing oil because I do tend to fill my oil right to the top. Diceman

Every time you spill a little oil when filling the tank it ends up on the top of the tunnel under the oil/coolant reservoirs. It's just a few drops now and then, but it adds up and looks like oil is leaking. I had the same thing on mine, but couldn't find any problem. Seemed to just be accumulated drips. Clean up the area as much as you can, and be careful filling the tank. Watch the area and see if oil re-appears soon, or if it stays relatively clean.

Pics!

That might be the answer. I have spilled little amounts at a time I quess. I will clean it up and keep an eye on it. Diceman

the airbox has drainholes in the bottom to let the fuel/oil spitback from the carbs drain out, and it drips on the top of the tunnel and causes it to look like spilled oil as well. Completely normal to have some spitback. A lot of spitback usually indicates reeds that are no longer sealing well.
