I am trying to get my sled to top out at 2000ft for radar. It needs about 2300ft before it hits top speed so If I cant use that power could I gear down from the stock gears Im using now to put that power to use down in my bottom end to give me better low and midrange power for racing?? If you guys think I should gear down then what would you run. I dont want to lose too much top speed, Just want to be at top speed at 2000ft, not 2300ft.

hey BF, I may have forgot to say that I geared down 1 tooth ( 21) on my setup. make sure you do your homework on the right gear to buy if you do, they are different designs for 98-99 and 2000+
(been there, bought that, and that, and then this one :o)

Ya know there are different in the 98-99 models I just dont know what to put in. Any suggestions because I just want to change it a little

Ya I met up with Larry on my way down to the lake, we ran a good mile I would think, I thought I'd get killed from a dead stop because of his ripsaw and studs but we launched even and I pulled ahead and I couldn't see him in my peripheral vision, then I hit some soft stuff and he went by me, then I pulled even and we stayed that way. He gave me a 51/43 to try so I'm gonna try it today.

just drop down one tooth, anymore and you will probably lose top end. 2000 ft. is pretty long.

run the gears for the late model srx's 23/38 old or new style. you should be pleased with the results

I went from 23 to 22 on top
2000 srx

I also machined the flange on my helix 0.100" to get it to shift out farther to not loose top end ratio.
seems to work. 115 on speedo and ran out of road.

does it matter if I switch from a 37 to a 38 .. or if I switch from a 23 to a 22. Am I going to get the same results. Because if it didnt really matter then I would switch the Top sprocket because it costs less money$$$. But I dont really care what it will cost me so long as I can hit absoloute top speed at exactly 2000ft . Not 2300ft like I am now.

heh buffalo bob Im running a 1 inch camoplast predator track and last time out I had 144 studs in it and I was hitting 8300rpm. I just put in another 48 so I am now running 192. I am going to adjust my rpm to be at 8500 also. I am going to try running it like this and if I am still not at top speed at 2000ft then I will go down one size in gearing on the top sprocket. Does that sound like the best way of doing it??

Blue if you want to pick up a couple of mph do some rear skid work.
Thinner sliders and maybe an 8" wheel kit for the back.
and then run the track a little tighter then specs.
I tried went with the bigger wheels front until I learnt that the thinner sliders do the same thing.

gearing down is not going to help you. dropping one tooth on the top gear is approx. 3 mph difference. if you were fine tuning a race sled with very little track slip then it may. with the trail track & studs you're using you would be wasting your time & money. also same goes for the bigger rear wheels. don't loose focus. you have a trail sled you want to go fast. leave the sock '98 gearing in. get your rpm's @ 8500 & concentrate on suspension efficiency.
are you going to n. bay this weekend? if so find me & i will take a look @ what your doing.
