I was out sledding last weekend and one of my sleds started to have a problem. If I braked hard the sled would just lose power for a short time till the rpms dropped to about 1500-2000. This would not always happen. It would just make a ting ting ting sound and then she would come back to normal with full power available. Normal riding was not affected. I have two of these sleds and the other is working fine. It was not even a major problem but on a typical 60 mile loop it would happen about 3 times. The main thing I noticed was I was quickly stopping or slowing down. I wait a few seconds for the rpms to come down and away I go. Anybody have this problem?
Thanks

Its not a problem, well sure doesnt sound liek one anyways. What is most likely happening is that when your braking, your secondary clutch is coming to an abrupt stop, without allowing the clutch to backshift and keeps the belt deep in the secondary, then when back on the gas, it bogs cuz its under lots of load. Its like having a quad or car with a manual transmission in a too hard of gear for the engine to turn over for a short period of time, (lugging) until the secondary spins again, allowing the backshift to occur.
You mentioned only one sled did this, well maybe your clutch ont he affected sled is more prone to this due to a worn out belt or dirty clutches.

Sounds like TORS
Well after looking through the forum it sounds like the TORS. It does not bog. It just has a complete loss of power for a few seconds with this strange ting ting ting sound like its not firing. Then all of a sudden back to normal. Anyone else see the same and find out it was the TORS?

tombo...
sounds like a TORS problem for sure...that bing bing bing sound ur hearing is exactly what it sounds like....had this problem a couple times on my sx700.....your throttle cable is too tight.....loosen it off at the adjuster....
i loosen it off a bitand then start it up and test it...if it still kicks in i loosen the cable a little more....etc until it stops happening

tombo,
if its only happening occasionally as you described, it probably only needs to be loosened a touch...
let me know how it goes but im 99.9%sure this will cure it...i had this problem a few years ago and brought it to the dealer cause i didnt know what the hell it was....then recently i ran into this when i put my motor back in after having it out this summer....
let me know how it goes

yep... just got my 00 700... did the same thing... I was freaking out. Disconnected the TORS, problem gone. Didnt know about throttle cable though... is adjuster at thumb, or at carbs?

The adjustment is at the carb rack
check to make sure there isnt somthing restricting the throttle cable, especialy when you turn the handlebars . somtimes turning ,if cable isnt in rt or obstructed will cause tors to kick in

Thanks for all your help. I will lube and loosen the cable and see if it goes away.
Anyone with this sled ever experience top end speed reduction. Another problem I get intermittantly (usually when the sled is warmed up very well) is the top end is only at 70mph. Sometimes if I feather the throttle it will kick in and go above that to a normal top end above 95mph. When its cold out and also the sled has only been drive for a half hour or less I do not see the problem. Could this just be a dirty carb problem?
Thanks

i have the same problem. sometimes top end is only 60-70, feels like its bogging. Sometimes feels like its trying to go, and will, then hitting about 95. cluthes seem to be working. I am wondering if the brake is binding, will look at it tonite. Sled only does this intermittantly. kink in emergency brake cable or spring too weak to return brake after releasing it.
