Whats the difference in Secondary Spring ?

What would be the difference in my secondary spring if I ran either a Green secondary spring at 60degs, or if I ran a Red at 80degs if they both gave me the same rpm.
Which would be better for a 2000ft radar run or 2000ft race??

well ,first off you dont tune rpm with the secondary, you simply control the shift.
When choosing a secondary spring you want to use the softest spring you can without slipping the belt. The softer spring will run faster topend without a doubt, but you will not have as much backshift either. Everything is a trade off in clutching. If all your after is maximum topspeed and you dont care about trail riding, the red at correct twist will provide the most mph

okay so if I run the red at 70 and Im over revving at 8600rpm is that okay for wide open 2000ft radar runs and 2000ft racing??

How do you control RPM? Mine does not reach the RPMs it is targeted to reach this year. How do I increase it by 250 RPMs?

You need to install lighter rivets in the primary weights to lower rpm,s.

Weight do not control top speed..they control rpms they will control how hard the engine pulls in each area of the shift....As was said the sec. clutch controls the up and backshift..the primary controls the rpms...That bieng said some weights like the 89-a 10s will shift up harder as much of the weight is close to the center of the ramp whereas the 8-dns will pull slightly harder on top...02 and then there is the helix will will get you 4-6 lengths in a 100 dash

ya thanks. I think I pretty much understand this whole clutch thing now. Just have to experiment now and find out for myself.. My only problem is I dont have unlimited amounts of $$$$ to buy all kinds of stuff. Dont have the snow to do tests either.. Anyways thanks for the input

OK, lets inspire some more learning. My 00 Venture 600 came stock with 8dg. I've now put in 8ab's, 2.4 in the inner, 51/43 helix at 80(going to try this, was 70 in Muni). Springs are stock P-G-P and Red. Stock gearing at 20/39 (ripsaw, reed notch, no more two-up seat or backrest). I like the RPM's at shift out(around 8500) but I've been having too much fun to look at the tach off the line. It tops out around 120 Km pretty quick but creeps up from there so maybe 130 across a lake. At this point I like the set-up so I'm not looking for suggestions unless anyone wants to offer them. I did keep up with Viper Dave's sled in Muni running across a 8-10" deep field. It was only 3-600 feet, but I was happy(I'm terrible at distance estimating). He's about 40lbs heavier than me. Of course, maybe he was playin' with me, don't know.

In general, is it the difference in the ramp profile that makes these two weights different or is it the location of the mass? Also, is there an easy way to explain what we are seeing in the graphs, or maybe what we should be looking for when thinking of trying a different weight? I'm going to pick up Aaen's clutch book this week so I'll have that to read.
