So my g/f's v-max 1994 600 elect start + rev.

This thing is a BEAR to turn. I rode it and would be tired, and she complains she is so sore after a days riding. ANy way to lessen the driver input on this sled. It does track well, no daring etc, but man youi have to push and pull to move those skis!!!!

It does have upgraded USI skis on it as well.. suggestions?

The sled in question........

Perhaps its just normal?

How is the ski pressure? Like mentioned above... check the limiter straps. Put the sled on a nice flat hard surgace (garage floor?) and check the skis... do the "tip" forward... is the front edge of the carbide touching and not the back? Fix this either by limiter straps, or if that doesn't do it, some shims under the back of the rubber bumper in the saddle might help.

Also, have you checked that the steering is not binding up? Lift the front of the sled and turn the bars... easy to turn or not??

My wife complained about my 94 VMAX and the handle bars. I installed a 2 inch riser and a pro-action skid. I really like it now and so does she. I have stock skis with a wedge under the spindle for more rearward pressure. I beleive it is just the nature of the skis. They don't dart but do require more effort. What size carbides are on there and how many studs are installed?

Yes jack the front up and turn the the handle bar lock to lock, see if
it's binding some how.

Ther is a grease fitting in the spindle.

My wifes machine

You should get here a set of bar bells for Valenties day!! LOL
My wife has been riding the same machine for 10+ years now. You can rest assured if she had any trouble steering it i would be the FIRST person to hear about it!
Your plastic ski's aren't helping. I Put them on mine to fix a darting issue and it does steering harder, but the darting stopped. The stock ski have very little keel to speak of.
That's my $.02

sweet vm's cm!!!:)

your 95 kinda looks like mine,, minuse the tower decales.

MY dad has a 1995 500 like that... and it is also hard to steer. my arms get sore after riding it ony 10 minutes!

try steering a sled with a set of hyfax bolted to the botom of ur sxr style skies. oh boy is it hard. aslong as u have alot of uper body strength u cna go 90 mph into any corner with no fear of goin of the trail but they were hard a fudge to stear. i was so tired every time i came home. and i case any one si wondering why i bolted hyfax to the bottom. i riped a runner off at teh top of teh mountain and had to do some road riding to get back and by that time keel was gone so i was lookin and got to thinking huh i bet a 16 buck set of hyfax would slefe right over what was left of the keels if i groved them and they did slid right on and only had to get one longer bolt for the front ski loop to hold the tipe and use the one out fo that in the back to hold it on and then teh carbkides did the rest. plus i had 10 or 12 inch carbidies on there too. that didnt help the stereing either

Tie rod ends!

Make sure all the tie rod ends are free (six of them). Also it's easy to drop the two pitman arms on the struts and clean them up and re-lube.The pitman arms are held on by large snap-rings. When I purchased my 95 they where almost frozen! Hitting the pitman arms with a grease gun may not be enough. Drop them down and clean them. It worked wonders on mine!!!!!

As fishx65 said. Removed the steering linkage from each strut and try and move each ski (with them in the air) . I found one of mine was really hard to move. I was lucky and all I had to do was shoot plenty of new grease in there and it was good as new. If they move freely, you've at least eliminated that part and can check other areas.

I would recommend using the amsoil water resistant grease. It is excellent for low temp use. All grease is not created equal.

...good info here.

Daman, where is the zerk you're referring to "on the spindle"?

I've only found 4 on my sleds - 2 in the rear susp & 1 on each front shock assembly, whatever that collar is called.

Is there another?

Thx.
