Hey guys ,I guess there was some bad info on here that i read stating that an led tailight is the way to go when installing the brighter xenon head light bulb. Well guess what ,The led bulb does not work in the 97 sx! Just threw away 23 bucks! I guess you cant believe everything you read.
I have one on my 97SX.
I can't explain why a LED light bulb that operates on the same voltage and has the same connection scheme but only draws less current would not work.
Maybe you have a bad bulb.

Should work... same light as on my 97 VMax. Are you sure you got the correct style bulb??
Hooked it to a 12v battery and the bulb works fine. A regular 1157 works grt in my sled too except it makes my headlight dim when brakes r applied! go figure
PM Rich. I bought mine from him, no issues, plug and play!
I just picked one up, it says 1157L on the package and i am going to install it tomorrow. Will let you know if it works.
you might have the same problem i have with my et410.
tried to put led bulb in tail light last season. went and tested it before i put lens back on. tail light and brake light didnt light up on it
. hold the bulb in with light pressure and it worked perfectly. couldnt figure out how to hold the bulb in like that so put 1157 bulb back in. its a 1997 too.
soultion might be to change out housing/complete assy offof newer or older sled. one i put on sxr works great and it a 2001. might be only a problem with that year.

There is absolutly not technical reason for it not to work other then maybe the bulb manufacturing is defective and not making proper contact.
I gave this advice to many on this web site and understand electricity since I am an electronics engineering technologist.

Its not dc current on the 97 taillight circuit. And led are polar sensitive. Can you put the bulb in 180 and try it? I have a 97 that I'm going to do the same thing on. I remember reading one time on I think even on Rich's site that they had problems with some leds on the 97 sleds.
BTW I don't think its true AC either. I think its a clipped sine wave. If you can pull the shop manual out and it even shows it as AC..

I had a led taillight on my 97 sx till I sold it. As far as I know, it's still working.
the bulb is a negative ground application and says it will not work on positve ground systems,. But I dont believe the sx is a positive ground system, Or is it?

No the sx is not positive ground. But that comment about positive ground is my exact point. Diodes only let current flow in one direction.
Its funny ,cause every so often you can see a very dim light emerge from one of the tiny bulbs . Like it does not have enuff juice gettin to it , but like i said a regular 1157 bulb works fine.

my led in my 97 700sx works fine!
picked up a 1157 led bulb and 8 extra led wire loop soldered that set in and all work fine....CP
well I bit the bullet and bought another , to make sure it wasnt the bulb .................and it was . the new led works grt! Funny though I checked the bulb and it worked fine hooked to a battery but it wouldnt work in the sled ... connections looked good and everything... I sent it back w/ a very displeaseing letter.and the newer one was half the price of the 1st one. Anyway sorry to all those ,regarding 1st post,Hope I did'nt affend anyone. And thanks for the reasurance!

in my case it isnt the bulb. put it in the rear of my xt350 and havent had a problem yet.
