Can I replace mr grips on a 1999 SX 600 with out damaging the heat tape? why is there a rivet in the grip?
Thanks!
Thanks!
The rivet is there so the grip won,t twist or move, alot of glues will warm up when they are on and your grips will start to move ....
I had a 98 600 vmax and I just drilled out the rivet and twist slowly an the grip should come right off?

use a heat gun to slowly warm the grips and start to twist, be carefull to twist and warm slowly as to not damage the heaters. ( if you plan to re use them) I have used this method on 3 sleds with no problems. I was able to re use the stock grips with a little bit of 12 hour epoxy to hold them on the new handlebars. (12 hour is supposed to be stronger that 5 min) Its been 3 years of hard riding and the grips are still fine.

Like he said except I didn't use a heat gun I just removed the rivets, started up the sled and cranked up the grip warmer dial. Once they were good and hot they twisted rite off.
