Guys, what would cause this...

If I go for 15 minutes or more in deep powder, my 500 clutch will get hot and start making this squeaking whine at idle. It's only at idle, and only after long powder pulls. Trail-only riding = warm clutch with no squeal.

The noise is coming from the belt, not bushings. If I push down lightly on the belt, it stops.

Alignment and separation are in spec, YPY spring with 10.3 rivets in stock weights. All bushings and rollers and buttons are good. The sheaves are smooth and clean. Belt is 1.34, I relocated the "2nd spacer" in the secondary, as per manual.

What would make a clutch get hot and squeal?

Likely not enough side pressure on the belt, springs may be weak, or something is binding, or it is simply not setup for powder.

You might try more twist in the secondary.

Also check belt deflection.

BTW, where'd you find that picture of me? My GF snapped that last year, just before I re-painted my helmet. Cheers!
 
I am still looking for that exact style and color of helmet. Once I find it I will wear it just to see what people do . . .

Are you gonna paint the Phazer red as well? ;)! Maybe take the oil injection off and put bogie wheel suspension on?! LOL
 
my sx would squeel like crazzy in idle was inbarrising, turns out it was the adjusting bolts on the back of the secondary where worn down, replaced them and went with one washer and shes mint.
 
Same thing happened to me and again it was the three bolts on the back of the secondary were worn and mushroomed. Replaced, with one washer and back to the party I went.
