Vmax 600 ERC revving to 9100 rpms

Need to lower peak rpms by at least 500. Has all stock 1999 clutching. 8dg-00 weights w/ steel 13.9mm/3.6 gram heel rivet, and aluminum 10.3mm/0.85 gram rivet in the tip hole. Can I just replace the tip rivets to bring down rpms? What rivet weight should I start with? Did search for this setup, but nothing exactly like it. Sled is used for trail 90* of the time. Thanks RR Sled has over revved since new, with different belts. Center-to-center distance is in specs and clutches are clean. Well most of the time.LOL RR

Yeah, 2800 miles on the sled and I'm finally tired af having to stay OUT of the throttle, (and barely ahead of the wife's 500).LOL Running 8DN belt, stock 47* helix. Haven't had the chaincase apart to check the gearing for sure. Have seen confusing charts on what is stock gearing on a 1999 vmax600erc(deluxe in later years). It looks like I will have to test on grass, 'cause there's sure no snow here! sigh thanks RR I'm willing to change other components if I have to. Would going to a 14.5 mm roller bring down the rpms? I see in the spec charts that some of the SX-R's use the smaller roller.

Change tip rivet to a 3.6 gram if you are under 180 or to a 3.1 gram if you are over that weight. Costs $4 & will get rpm,s pretty close.
 
Hey, thanks to all the good people on TY, esp Turk, who must have the biggest box of clutch tuning parts in the whole world!! At least in Canada! lol I'm 185 plus with gear, so I'll probably go light and see what happens. I'll post results when parts are changed and tested. RR
 
Well, finally. I removed the 0.85 Al tip rivets and put in the 3.1 steel rivets. Ran back-to-back runs, before changing and after. Before (stock): Jumped to 9200rpms, settled at 8900. After rivet change: Jumped to 9000rpms, settled at 8500. Little 600 seemed to accept the increased weight happily. Tested on dry grass at 30-32*F. Used same belt and did not clean or change clutching between runs (multipules). Lol The .75 Yoko hooks well on the grass!! Only time! Sled feels different as the upshift pattern is much more responsive.Thanks Turk. Anxious to try it on snow, maybe next week. RR
