I have a stock 98 700SX with the original track and skis. I am looking to upgrade my track, don't have allot of money to invest at this time, thinking about picking up a used track. I am pretty sure that I have a set of Yamaha plastic Skis to put on the sled from my brother. I am an aggressive rider, and ride all groomed trails in upstate New York, with a few trips to Canada. Will be starting out unstudded, but plan on studding as funds allow.

How tall of a lug should I be looking for, before it has clearance and slider lube problems?

Can a tall lug track still be studded on this sled?

Are the predator tracks a good track if I should find one?

Should the skis be shimmed?

Any other watch outs, or advise, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

im pretty shur u can fit a 1 1/2 inch track on but u might have to remove the heat exchanger protectors or clip the track. if ur ridng mostly gromed trails id sugest a 1 inch track eitehr a camoplast hacksaw or ripsaw. or a kimpex agressor or ultimate traction track. i have teh altamate traction track on mine nice fat lugs hard to ware down i even have 8 dirtbike stud screws in each row of lugs and only broke on or 2 lugs and that was on the very out side and it was realy rocky that day. witha 1 inch track u should ahve any problems wth studing go liek 1.175 woodies and u wont have a problem. not sure with the longer lug for studs.

Thanks for the info terret!

Excuse the ignorance, but what does clip the track mean? I would love to put a hacksaw on it, but I am watching e bay for something for less $$$. Any other watchouts as far as good take off tracks?

on some tracks over like 7/8th of an inch on sleds with heat exchanger protectors rub on the protectors and u lose HO to teh grounds and put unnessisar stress on teh rest of ur power train. usaly at the windows on the track alot of tracks have an open space for the protectors but some dont and the lug rups right there so teh easyest thing to to is to take and eitehr take a pair of cutters, they have some plier like cutters with the cutting edege at teh tip and wide, or a razor nife and trim down teh lug where it rubs till it doesnt rub any more.

i got a camo 1.250 preditor track last year on ebay for dirt cheap, it rocks the hard packed snow and is good in powder also, i just installed 192 studs and it grips like hell.

for a new track check out royaldistributing awsome deals.

i was wonderin terret725 if that 1 1/2" lug would also be true with a 2000 sxr 600. cause i want to extend mine from a 121" to a 144" and am wondering on lug size
