Has anyone rebuilt their primary with an after market kit? Yamaha wants $25.00 JUST for one roller! Rec & leisure corp. in farmington Mich. sells a kit for around $90.00. I think it's made by SPI. Won't be back in stock untill next year. Anyone know Where I might be able to get one? Are they any good? It's for a 95 V-max. Thanks!!!!
P.S. I really just need to replace the plastic bushings in the rollers. Has anyone figured out a way to do that yet?

what rollers do you need? i bought a primary from a guy and he gave me a complete rebuild kit with it. i called my local yamaha dealer and asked him if they sold a kit and they said no. so i gave him the part number of the kit i was holding in my hand and he tried to give me a line of BS how it was not a valid Yamaha part no. like i was lying to him or something. i might have the parts your looking for if you can get some part #'s

Sparta, Thanks for the quick reply! What sled was the primary you picked up for? I know there are a couple different size rollers for yammies. The part number I found for my 95 V.max is 8AB-17624-10-00. Does that kit he gave you have a part # on it?

Solution! Maybe!
I just went to the hardware store and found some nylon spacers that seem to work perfect! They are a nice tight force fit inside the roller and the collar that goes inside the bushing seems to have the perfect clearance. It rolls nice and smooth without binding! Is this crazy enough to work or do you guys think they will wear out to fast? They were .19 cents each!!!!!!!
Has anyone ever tried this?????

Go here for a complete fiche for your sled:
http://216.37.204.206/xtremepowersports/Yamaha_OEM/YamahaSnow.asp
Search the Primary Sheave listing for item 33, Clutch tune-up kit. It offers a complete set of bushings, rollers, pins, bolts, nuts, washers, and set screws at the bargain price $110.
The dealer who said "invalid part number" is a crook who should be forced to pound sand. He's just trying to sell you each piece invidually for a much higher price. Shoot him.
Your sled has a YXR primary clutch with 8mm-ID rollers. Yamaha has since switched to 9mm rollers
introduced in 1996 and standard by 1997).
Available 8mm-ID Roller OD’s:
8AB-17624-00-00 – 14.5mm
8AB-17624-10-00 – 15mm
8BH-17624-10-00 – 14.5mm
8BH-17624-20-00 – 15mm
8BH-17624-00-00 - ??mm
Regarding roller OD’s:
Ø if OD decreases, weight force is increased, which decreases engagement and shift RPM
Ø If OD increases, weight force is decreased, which increases engagement and shift RPM
Ø You can offset roller OD changes by altering cam weights (rivets). To make up for a reduction in OD, add mass to the clutch weight.
On old sleds like ours, it's likely you won't notice much diff between 14.5 or 15mm OD, unless you're building a finely-tuned monster race sled or something. So regardless of what size rollers Sparta may have, they will work fine if they are 8mm ID.
Regarding aftermarket clutch parts, I was unable to find any decent source for inexpensive parts. Royal Distributing and Rec-and-Les both offered clutch rebuild kits for these sleds which are "on backorder indefinitely". www.hiperf.com sells Secondary buttons for $1 each, and adjustable-weight kits, but not much else for a stocker.
Also, Yam does sell just the roller bushing (see item 9 on fiche - $16 each).
Get Sparta's rollers, or shop around with this list of part numbers. I think you can get down to around $12 per roller if you buy a 15mm from the right guy.

Got a name or prt number for those spacers? Let me know how they work out.
If your clutch doesn't run hot, they might last long enough to be worthwhile. Even a half season would be sweet at 19 cents.

I come up with this for the bushings P/N
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx
And this for the price.

I push the old bushings out with a small socket and a vise, and press them in with the vise.
The kit from Rec leisure contains NO rollers.

Baker, Thanks for the great info! I was wondering how different size rollers would effect the sled! This web site ROCKS! I didn't get a part # on the plastic collars, I just took the roller and collar up to the hardware store with me and found one that fit. I really think it's gonna work. I'm going to put one on for the rest of the season and see how it holds out. If it works out pretty good, I'll post a new thread about it and send you a message.
I noticed in the tech pages that the factory bushings are made out of something called Duralon.
