I posted lastnight asking about is a 97 and 98 suspension the same. The bolts broke right off holding the shaft that holds the bottom of the front shock of the suspension. Why would this or what would cause this? Wondering if the suspension isn't set properly for my weight???? I honestly don't have a clue, just quessing. I looked at the suspension and have no idea where to begin. Is it hard to do? Where do you even begin? Does I guy with little experience with sleds have any chance of doing this on his own. Thanks again. Diceman

Hey Diceman..........it's very easy to do. One thing Yami's have is lots of things to adjust.
Go th the TY homepage and look in the "tech section". You will find an area about rear suspension. Just scroll through there and you will find 2 or 3 articles about setup. Lots of info there and it should help you understand what each adjustment will do.
If you are still stuck, I can always scan a few pages out of my 98 manual which shows the stock setting, and then start from there.
As for the bolts breaking........not sure.....maybe they were loose, corroded. never saw that before and been riding mine for 8 years.
So were you able to get the sheared bolts out????

yeah, if you can get the sheared bolts out you would have a perfectly good suspension in need of nothing butnew bolts.

I didn't have to get the bolts out. They broke off inside the bar that holds the shock, luckly the threads that are on the suspension look fine. The bolts must of broke off and then the remaining bolts that were in the suspension must of made there way out. Hopefully I'm going tonight to get a used bar or whatever you call it. A dealer wants $190 plus tax!!!!!! Diceman

I'm not sure but you make it sound like the bolts backed out, not broke off. It is more likely they got loose and backed out. You'll need to put lock-tite on all the new bolts.

Bolts were definately broke, sheared off. I can see them inside the bar of the suspension. The thread of the suspension looks good. Diceman

Are we talking about the same part???
Why do you need a whole new bracket??
Can you not take the bracket out of the suspension?
From the attached pic, that shaft has internal thrds. Remove the sheared off bolts, make sure the threads are ok and reinstall bracket.
And like crewchief said......locktite all bolts

OK, I think I know what you mean now. There are no threads in the slide rails, just the cross-shaft. The 'threads' you are seeing are just the bolts wearing into the rails, which tells me they may have come loose before breaking. If you can get the broken bolts out of the shaft, it should be re-useable. May have to drill them out and thread chase the holes. But if you have a replacement sourced, that will work too.
It is a wee bit strange that you broke the bolts before bending the shaft, but strange things happen all the time.

Post 45 in the above thread has my bent shaft pitured, with the fix.

The shaft is not bent but the lobes on each end of the shaft are broke off. One end has half the lobe but the other end, the lobe is completely broke off.My friend thinks they are called lobes. This is why I can not re-use it. Are they called lobes ant the ends of each shaft?? Diceman

hah.....no problem.....don't know if there is a "real" name for those.
Since it's just a piece of steel, I would try to weld them back up instead of paying $190 for a new one.
Or you have a line on a used bracket.??

If you hit 'post reply' under the last post, it will open the advanced 'replt to thread' page. In the box below the 'submit reply' button there is a 'manage attachments' button. follow the directions there. I resize all my pics to 700 pixels wide or less and save them on the desktop so they're easier to find for posting. Worse case senario, email them to me. crewchief47 at hotmail.com

Well boys I am getting the bolts tapped out and will attempt to use it again. Now my second dilema, when I went to the dealer to order new bolts I explained to them what had happened and showed them the shaft with the bolts broken off in each end. They seemed (well atleast one guy ) surprised that I was able to get the shaft that supports the bottom of the shock out without dropping the suspension. To me it was easy. I just took the two straps off and took the bolt off that held the bottom of the shock to the shaft.Should it have been that easy. When I took the bolt out that held the bottom of the shock, should the shock have moved, come out farther or would it have just not moved because it didn't ??? I quess I'm wonderding if maybe the shock is seized or broken and that is why the bolts broke off the shaft. What do you think guys????? Diceman
