Yes it is.
The first thing you do is to open the clutch cover, then locate the PTO side seal (the one that sits behind the primary clutch) , start the engine and spray start gas onto the seal.
On the MAG side you will have to spray through a little hole in the upper crank half, it is located to the left "starter" mechanism , I think you can see a little part of the flywheel when looking into the hole. Try spraying into that hole, it`s besy to use a little "red" lengthener on the spray so that you can aim better.
Make sure that fluid is coming out of the spray can, especially if it is almost empty, I had that problem when I did this.
If the engine suddenly changes it`s running pattern, rews slightly, when you spray, then you have blown seal.

Just use like a spray starting fluid? Will a carb cleaner work as well?

I don`t mean to correct you daman, but I sprayed in the hole that is "in front" of the waterpump belt check hole... I guess both could work as a spray test hole ?. But the one I used is the on that is closest to the magneto.
