Can you tell that a plug is fouled by looking at them? I couldn't start my srx today, when it would start it sounded like only 1 cylinder firing, I took the plugs out and grounded the electrodes and they are all sparking, I put them in my buddys polaris and it fired right up, are the srxs that fussy with plugs? Could my fouled plugs work ok in his polaris? My plugs have spark and its getting gas but it won't fire, I put my plugs in the polaris and it fires right up. What is going on?
 
when they fire if fuel fouled, they tend to have a erratic spark jump, meaning instead of going straight to the ground strap from the electrode, they jump to the side or dance around, sometimes when like this they wont even fire under compression.

use a spark plug cleaner or spray them out with carb cleaner and heat em up with a propane torch. You may have just flooded your sled, its not hard to do with a srx.

Also, you can look up inside them at the base of the ceramic cone to the housing, and they will be wet up in there if fuel fouled. Are the plugs wet when you pull them out of the sled?

this may seem like a dumb question, but i've always wondered... once you fould a plug is it junk for good or can you put them through a spark plug cleaner and re-gap them and be good to go? i've always wondered this, thanks!!!
 
yes, you can clean them and they work like new. Buy the sp. plug cleaner and youll never have to buy plugs again, sears, harbor freight all carry them.

no. the oven wont work, you need a propane torch to get it hot enuff to dry up all the residue fuel up in the cone/base area.
 
first thing to do is shut off ign switch, remove all sp.plugs, tape throttle lever wide open, and pull it over about 50 times, this will dry out the cylinders.
Remove tape from throttle lever and let the sled sit for a hour or so with no sp plugs in it, you can also speed this up by blowing compressed air into the spark plug holes. If there is excess gas in the case bottom and pipes, its a bear to start them, the sp plugs can still be ok, but with gas puddled up its so rich it wont start, thats why the plugs work in another sled.
 
Deekersrx700-where do you buy your plugs at? Here they are $3 and some change a plug..so about $10 total. I couldn't imagine paying $35 for 3 plugs!
 
Welcome to Canada, lol, the br9ecs are 9.95 canadian a plug, when its all said and done 35 bucks.

Mrviper, did everything you said and finally got her going, you know whats funny, I torched and cleaned the plugs, taped the throttle and pulled her over 50 times, it still wouldn't go, not even a sniff, so on a whim I took my hairblower and sat her on the carbs for 15 minutes, tried her again and away she went. Whats funny is frozen gas lines never crossed my mind because the sled did start earlier. Thanks for all the help, I learned a few things today, what would I do without TY!!!
 
Its sunny and 50 degrees here, we dont have to worry about frozen water in lines....lol :o|

BTW- I would check real good for water in the gas, it can and will ruin your engine! I would add some dry gas or something to it for the water if thats what it is, or better yet drain it all out and put it in your car or something, fill up with fresh fuel in sled.

How does a guy completely empty the fuel tank??, must you remove it or something. the br9ecs are 6.95 but I run the br9es for 1.89 each

My dad runs isopropyl in every tank, is that good practise, can it do any harm? How much should be put in a tank?

a lot of alcohol content will dry out your rubber fuel components much quicker, making brittle fuel lines and stuff. Otherwise its not such a bad thing. Here we have 10% ethanol in our gas, so its not really necessary.
 
To remove all the fuel, simply tip it up on its side and use a large clear siphon hose and it will drain it.
 
ya, thats one, just make sure you blow out plug with compressed air after using the tool and you will be good to go. You have to keep the abrasive changed also, if you let it get too fine, it will start getting stuck up in the plug. I change mine 2 times a year, it cheap.
