Well Pat came over tonight and we got my sled running like a top. But man did it need a LOT of coolant. Nearly a gallon to get it to spit out the bleeder in the back of the sled.

But, it starts on the first pull now... Idles smooth. And we did the starter fluid check around the crank seals... no issue there. Cleaned the carbs too.

Now, all we need is some

FRICKEN SNOW!!!!!!

Yup, sounds real strong... instant throttle response. Near as we can tell the new cylinder wouldn't run for one of two reasons: Dirty carb (which we doubt because it was like new when we took it apart and "cleaned" it) or that crank journal had a bit more coolant in it than we originally though and it just took it a little while to clear it out. Once it was clear it took right off.... and got real hot quickly... then it dawned on us to bleed the coolant system... once that was done it cooled right down and ran great.

I am starting to believe that the reason for the failur was coolant in the cylinder. Before I left for the UP that weekend I had to top off my coolant reseviour. Never had to do that before... I just figured I lost a little messing around with "stuff" prior to my first ride of the season and didn't think much of it. When it left me on the side of the trail the reseviour was back down a couple inches.... hmmmmm.... believe me I'll be watching this closely from now on.
