What is the best mods i can do to a 97sx 700, i want to beat my buddies stock 01srx, what can i do without pipes(too loud for my area)

clutch kit- whos is the best? is the maxxperf trail riding kit good for $169 im a heavy guy 240lbs so i would prob have to change it abit right.

I have snopro reed spacers and a bender silencer
1.188 preditor track with 192 1.375" woodys studs.

i was thinking of getting new reeds which is better boyesen or carbon tech. carbon tech claims a 3hpgain.

as of now i take him on takeoff bigtime im about 15feet infront untill we go over 65-70mph then he blows by me and stays about 30feet infront of me. erg it pisses me off :o|

ive read and searched this site for clutching and theres lots of different stuff so i would like to start with a kit then make changes after.

No way no how in a kazillion years with out pipes & good porting. He has 30ish hp more then you.

First, Take out the motor. Then take away the chasis. Sell both. And go buy an SRX.

In other words forget it. It will not happen.

A well tuned SRX will beat any other non-4stroke yammi out there... I see it all the time... wastes the Rev 800 HO Renagade too... and Polaris 700 Pro-X with some minor mods... just ask Rambunctious from here on TY... those are the sleds we ride with most and he beats them all... all except the nice new Attack in our group.

If you want to beat an SRX... buy an SRX!!!!

"and even that might be pushing it."

Yeah, I guess it would run with the 3 cylinder 4 strokes... but I've never ridden with one so I guess I was just generalizing based on the 4 cylinder I have ridden with.

That's what I have found out, too. I have a hot rod SRX (with mods) and when I run against it with my heavily modified VMax4 (180+ hp), the SRX will usually have the lead - not by much but still impressive. My favorite is still the VX800 but I do like that SRX too... except off trail.

Nope, no way no how, Even a heavily moded sx will have a hard time w/ a 2001 srx. Havn't seen it yet!.. Now a 98 or 99 srx might be a different story. Ive taken a few of those. But a 2001 .....I dont think so/.....................??

I have taken SRXs on the trail, but not even close on a long stretch or a lake. The SX apears to corner a litrtle better, at least this has been my experiance. My brother had a 98 and he even had it trail ported and he still didn't have much on me. His newer 2001 SRX will smoke my SX on a long stretch

That seems more like rider error to me. Just by the geometry of the setup, the SRX's should smoke an SX in the twisties.

Depends on the rider. The SRX was probably the best high speed cornering trail sled ever built. Just look at its profile - so low. It takes a heck of a rider and machine to catch my son on an SRX on the mountain trails. However, if riding conditions get tough like lots of loose snow, rough stuff or cross country, I park the SRX's (have two of them) and ride something else.

My 97 700SX - PSI pipes, reed spacers, .92 track w/144 in the center, clutched, 8DN belt will pretty much run with my friends 99SRX. his SRX is clutched, 192 studs on his stock track.

Doing a rolling start he usually jumps a half sled ahead of me and then we stay dead even like that. If we start from a dead stop he will pull one sled length on me then we stay dead even at that. If I get a better start then I can usually stay ahead but not by even a full length. I would never race him best out of three, I would be sledless................

We have never done a full out top end run but I know his has more top end than mine.
