OK, all you chemists and refinery experts... what is it that makes 2 stroke oil special? Why won't a "normal" oil like a 30W or something work? I've always been curious but have never asked! Like they say... there's no such thing as a dumb question.

two stroke oil is formulated to be compatible with gasoline (either in mixing or injection), whereas conventional oil loses some of its lubricating properties when any gas gets in it. Two stroke oil also needs to burn cleanly in order to meet emissions regs, whereas since four stroke oil doesn't (or shouldn't) burn, they don't have to worry about making it burn clean. That is making it nice and simple. Hope that helps.
