Hi guys!
I`m changing the oil in the chaincase on the V-Max that I recently repaired for a girl-friend (changed mag side crank seal).
I just drained the oil, well, wasn`t much oil, a white thick sauce you can say, hehe. I was sure there was an oil level plug on the front side of the chaincase, but there isn`t.
How much oil should I put in there?.
Thanks.

do you have the manual? Should be listed. Mine has a "dipstick" kind of thing on it... on the front leading side.
also I think it tells you on the belt cover how much to put in.
If you had a milky looking oil when you drained it you better fill it up - run it on the stand a bit and drain it again untill you get all the water out of there.

Hi guys thanks for the replys.
I feel abit stupid since I didn`t think of the dipstick, I guess it should be OK to just fill it up to the correct mark on the dipstick.
When I first loosened the drain plug, there came a little white thick oil out, it looked messy. I then filled the chaincase up with diesel, the drain plug was still out, but no diesel came out.
The oil at the bottom of the chaincase house was so thick that it just wouldn`t come out. I put a little "wire" piece in the drain plug hole and suddenly more oil came out, then after a little while the diesel started flowing. I did this 2-3 times, I then filled the chaincase with some regular 75W 80 gear oil , started the sled and rewed it so that the belt would start spinning (had the rear end off the ground) , I then tried to drain the oil again, a little came out, then the hole was blocked by thick oil.
I then decided to let the sled sit until I get a new gasket for the chaincase, probably smarter to remove the cover and get all the white thick oil out, I like to know that everything is done the way it should be done.
I just hope my dealer can get the gasket fast so that I my friend can start using her sled
.
Wellwell

Yeah, you should be able to use the gasket again.
