Going to change my sliders for the first time. Is it hard? Any helpful hints to make it easier would be great. Some guys say it can be quite a pain to do. Thanks Again Diceman

silicone spray will help a lot. also befor you install the new sliders make sure there are no nicks or sharp edges on the rails

Did the same thing a couple of months ago. Got a lot of info from the guys at TY. It was my first time and once you get them going them come off fairly easy. http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=20346

Yes very easy, On some tracks you can pull the hyfax right out the windows by pulling on them with Visegrips. Make sure you get a good bite with your screwdriver.......give it a rap with a mallet to seat it good, those screws are bad for stripping. Also give the Hyfax a good rap with a centre punch or chisle to get it started, It's always nice too remove the skid so you can inspect everything.
Like it was said above check for burr's on the Rails use a fine file too remove them, add a little grease or soap to the rails to help the news ones slide on and makes it really easy to remove them down the road.
I wouldn't call it easy by any means, but it's doable. Do a search. There are several threads about it.

Your track will be a pain. Its the ripsaw with the narrow windows and the sliders dont slide through them, but the windows will stretch.
As said above, I start the removeal with a scredriver and hammer, then a pair of vice grips and haul the old one out. Then to put the new ones on, I just jam them through the windows, then slide them on the rails. Easier said than done though, I went through a whole set of sliders becuse they got wrecked going on the rails, STUPID KIMPEX SLIDERS!!!.
They werent cut to length as I soon found out so had to take em back off, then cut em, then woudnt go on right. FUN

Measure twice, cut once. Use the old ones as your measuring stick...oh and drill the hole for the front rivet/bolt before you install them

Measure twice, cut once
I practise this method all the time and tell people to do the same but I odered these ssliders pecifically for my sled and expected them to be the proper length. Now I question everything and check them for myself.
Also, for anyone who wants to know, the Kimpex sliders dont come with a wear line....
As stated above it is not rocket science but it can be a real PITA, take your time and make sure the screw is not cross threaded when you put it back in. We use silicone spray on both the rail and the new slider, when you get the new one started on about 2” or so stop and look to make sure it is on correct. We always keep the cut off pieces to use to finish the install.

dont know, only changed slides on a yamaha once. Although i have taken them off to drill holes in them, then reinstall them. Piece of cake

I just changed mine tonight and for some reason I cannot get the dame screw to go back into the rail. I tryed realigning the hyfax and everything for about 20 mins and said forget it. The screw itself does not look stripped but it only goes in alittle and then will not turn anymore.. I even pulled the hyfax off again and tried putting the screw in that way and it did the same. How important are these damn screws anyway?? Any advice??. The other side was easy.
Very important..........The hyfax will come off if you don't put the screw back in. Try pulling the Hyfax back and try just putting the screw back in, then use a Scratching Awl to line up the hole again and try it again.
That's the problem. I did pull the hyfax off and tried to put the screw in. It does not even remotely want to turn... It seems perfectly aligned..
There have been some posts about just drilling out the hole and putting in a screw with a nut on the other end. I have never done this, you might want to make sure there is not anything stuck in the hole (some Ice maybe), if that does not work try running a tap through it. I have always thought it was a PITA to get that screw back in, it never seams like it is in right.

I've had many problems with the screws going back in as well. You MUST purchase yourself a tap, and re-tap the threads in the screw hole, this will solve your problem.

tap
A tap is a MUST have for that

Alright guys sounds like tap it is,lol! Thanks for the help at least I feel alittle better knowing I'm not the only one with this problem!! You would think with all the complicated stuff that a stupid little screw would be the last of our worries.

Hifax retainer screw blues.....
I've run into just what your experiencing and have found the even when using OEM slides the screw holes are not always right on center and can cause the screw to be off centere and become cross threaded. I now drill the holes out a little larger before I slide them on. Use a little loctite anti-seize on the threads. When removing the screws I've found using an impact driver to help get them loosened has also saved me a lot of time and headaches....
BTW - Do not use an impact driver to put them in! They dont have to be that tight!
