Anybody ever use an ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning their carbs jets and needles? My neighbor is a jeweler and he had an old one in his basement that he gave me. I've been using "TYME" from CRC to soak the jets and stuff but it didn't seem to do much good even after two days.
I poured some TYME in it and turned it on for about four hours, come to find out, it also heats (I know, ....don't use TYME in a heated soaker). Anyway, pulled the pieces out and as they cooled, they got what looked like wax on them. I took them inside and soaked them in hot water and it removed the waxy stuff.
First question, what would you recommend to use in the ultrasonic cleaner? Non-susding detergent?
Second question, what was the waxy stuff from the TYME?

BTW, the TYME has developed little BB size white pellets in it. It's suppose to have a chemical in it that floats on top to keep evaporation to a minimum. I tried shaking it and it won't break up or redisolve.

I have a friend that sells medical equipment/supplies. He hooked me up with an ultrasonic cleaner last year. I use mine for cleaning bearings, pull the seals, drop them in the tray and pour parts cleaner till they are all covered. After 10 minutes they are not completely clean of grease but almost all of the sand is out of them. Never used the ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning my carb parts, they have never been that dirty.

You need to be carfull with ultrasonic cleaners and flamible liquids they can flash on you. I work for a medical product manufacturer and when you use a flamible liquid you need to put water in the main tank and install another tank into the water bath. We use this practice using MEK and Alcohol at work.

With my racing carb I have had pretty good luck using laquer thinner to clean carb parts. Not sure how this would work in an ultrasonic cleaner. I have a couple of them and have thought about using them to clean carb. parts, but have not tried it yet.

Good

Works for me - however not much dirt gets in sled carbs. Great for bikes -etc.

Usually use Honda brake cleaner on sled carbs holes. It's oil free and works pretty good. Hit it with compressed air after Honda does it's job.

Actually dirt isn't the problem with mine either, I do get some gunk at the bottom edge of the intake side. It's that yellowish crap that cakes itself to the jets.

Yeah....but beside MEK, TYME, or alcohol, any suggestions on what liquid to use? I've thought of dishwasher soad (it won't suds up). I wonder about some of those "As Seen On TV". DeeDee 7, Tarn-X. Something along those lines. I've been going through the same thing with my parts washer also. I've been using Low Odor Mineral Spirits but that stuff smells like pig crap. I don't want a water-soluble because it stays in the tank forever and I don't want it to rust the bottom out.

I JUST WANT SOMETHING THAT MAKES THEM LOOK NICE AND SHINEY AGAIN....... :o|

LOL!!!

I have used one in the past. I used stoddard solvent that had a higher flash point .It worked pretty slick but the person I got it from wanted it back for her test tubes.I used for cleaning carbs and valve bodies in transmissions.
