XTC 600 gas mileage

Anybody know what kind of gas and oil mileage/usage a 1997 XTC 600 twin should be getting on average groomed trails.
 
Depends on how hard I drive mine. I get anywhere from 8-12 mpg. 12 if I'm not doing highspeed and on the throttle a lot. I would say an average of 10.5mpg would be pretty accurate. (I check my MPG every fill) I had major issues with the sled initially where I was getting 4-5mpg.

On our trails around here i get like 11-13,, I'm easy on the throttle
and all stock,,not too shure on the oil never payed much attention but
it don't look to bad. I'd say little over a qt. to a tank full.
 
Similar to Daman my 600 XTC gets 11-13 unless I am hard on the throttle and then it is more like 8-11. Even a week ago in heavy snow I was getting better milage than my Father on his 700 Viper. I did 57 miles on 4.7 gal and he needed 5.4 gal. 12 vs 10.5

Mine had the .8mm (2 layer) headgasket mod, Read stopper mod, Maxx Pref 600 performance secondary helix ( I really like the progressive helix) and 8AB flyweights. I will be swapping back in the stock flyweights before my next trip. I can't get the motor in the power band with the heavier fly wieghts. Helps milage though. I can cruise along at 45 below 6000 RPM.

Biggest issue is the Twin I have is an oil hog. Better too much than not enough but It is somehting I consider at each fill-up.

I get the best milage when I am leading and the worst when I am riding sweep.
 
Thanks, the one my buddy has is onlygetting about 5-6 mpg and using a tank of oil to every tank and a half of gas. My viper and srx both get 12-15 mpg riding at the same time. Is there a fix for this like maybe jets or needle height?

Is your buddys sled stock????
 
If that were my sled I would be cleaning/adjusting and replaceing everything that was worn out/broke/plugged up.

5-6 is some real bad milage. There is more than one thing wrong or the sled is heavily modified.

I'd clean the carbs. Every passage in the tm38 needs to be cleaned and visually inspected. Replace the pilot jets. They are like $3 each for the 45's that should be in there. Take the fuel screws out and clean the passage then set them to 1 3/4 turns out from bottoming out. Replace the plugs. Check the oil pump and the adjustment. Make sure there are no kinks in any of the fuel lines or vents. Check the belt. Check the offset. Replace any worn clutch parts. Replace the primary and secondary springs and the little pucks that the helix slides on.

I think that is a good start. Just in the savings in the cost of gas alone should pay for the replacement parts.
 
Yes the sled is stock, he is going to drop it off this week and i'll go through everything on it. thanks for the help.
