No the other sleds do not have that new secondary. On Yamahas web site they call it ypz, its much smaller where the spring and helix would be on a team clutch.jwiedmayer said:Did all the sleds get the new secondary thats on the phazer? Looks like a team/polaris clutch.

Nytro - 108.5" long
07 Phazer - 111" long

Smaller + Lighter(kinda) + Smaller engine= Yami's back to a Sno-X market frame of mind. Thats where a large part of the market is now.

you have to realize that 80hp in a four stroke will feel more like a 600 twin because of the torque. also realize this sled is 150lbs ( or more?) less than the apex ...power to weight ratio !!! i assume in the future there will be mods available as well as a 100-105 hp engine version...notice that 100hp mark is missing in the hp lineup at present.this sled reminds me of the redline...tube frame, stand up, ridiculous low weight. or a cross between a motorcycle and atv. Who else offers 16 inches of travel...seems like the ultimate ditchbanger...much more sled than the freestyle , bet it will hit almost the c-note if geared right on hardpack. 1 1/4 track would have been nice, as well as fox floats, but you can always buy the base model and dress it up the way you want. I personally like the fx the best . i think the harder you push it thru rough trail, it the better it will handle. feels like an rider forward f-7 when you stand and move on it. i think i could feel one with this sled when riding it. for all us guys who have been complaining about the weight, we can now give it a rest. i predict that yamaha us will take 1st place in market share within 4 years, or else the first round is on me at the 2011 TY ride gosh!, there may be 300 riders at that one.
thanks yamaha-- keep up the good work and keep on impressing us.

Before buying this sled, i'd wait a year at least... Usually with all New Prototypes Theres Flaws in them.. Usually it takes a year or so to get the bugs all worked out. who knows they might run into a probalm with them the 1st year out. Evan if i was SOOO intrested in it, id still hold my self back. thats Just Opinion Wise. I Agree With "adubs916"... I REally dont think 80 HP will Cut it for all those guys With the High Horse Power Machines they have now.. Coming Off that and riding one of these will Be a Huge Step Down as For Power and Preformance......Im Very Skeptical, But Id defintly Like to see What these New Phazers Are Made of..
Is there gonna be a turbo for this bad boy?? Cheap sled, put a 2,000$-4,000$ turbo and still dosn't come close to APEX in $$$$. that be the best way, and you'd save a whole Wack of money!!!

From the Yamaha website: Phazer FX 467 lbs. Apex RTX 542 Pounds. Might want to check the math. If this sled was 120 HP I would seriously think about buying it. 80 HP is not enough IMO. I also would not want to ride it on a 10 below F day.

I am struggling to understand the market they are after with the phazer??? I also ride a viper, 70% of the time 120hp is enough for my type of riding 5% it is to much and 25% of the time wish it had more. I am betting with only 80hp and near the same weight as my viper it would be lacking ALOT in power. I realize it makes better torque but come on the power to weight ratio lacks serious grunt. I personally could not see this sled as anything I would take out and put 200 miles on the trails with, sure it may be comfortable but I bet it would be cold and a bit boring. I have had Banshee's and raced quads, I was looking forward to a snowmobile that incorperated the same type of engineering, but don't like the looks of it either. I am eager to here reviews from TY members that get these out on the snow. Who in their right mind would purchase a $8000.00 snowmobile for souly ditch banging, when you could by a used Viper ($4000.00) put $3000.00 in it and have a sled that would give you a woody everytime you rode it. I think the Apex and Nytro are very trick, I wish Yamaha would have stayed with that all around sled mantality. I guess I need some time to let the Phazer grow on me. (A long time) Don't go bashing me this is my impression of the Phazer. If you like it go for it!

um id be one of thoes people whod buy it but i dont have teh cash right now or id snow check one tomorow. if u ride wide gromed trails its not teh sled for u but if u ride trailslike i do it is. u rearly hit over 70 in the trail and the rest of that speed goes to wast. yea its fun to bomb around on teh lake but its get boring after a few time i love bashing mogals 3 feet deep and 8 feet apart and this is the sled ofr it i garenty it.

I agree with you somewhat, but not everybody has trails to ride on. Ditchbanging is a big part of sledding, like it or not. If I couldn't ditchbang around home between sledding trips, then I wouldn't own a sled.

yes but...
There's no doubt Yamaha's testing the waters with this model, ...I think it's going to be a hit and don't be surprised to see a bit of the same in other hp catagories in the near future.

These sleds won't be for me. Way to cold and weird looking. We have 4 wheeler trails for the winter, why would we get a 4 wheeler with a track on it. It looks like Yamaha took their competitors ugliest sleds, drove them into each other at full throttle, and this is what the high speed impact fused them together as.
They could be a lot of fun to ride on rough trails, on a warm day. On a cold day with our perfectly smooth trails, you'd freeze your *** off in 10 miles.

This isn't a sled for a 7 or 8 year old by any means. there is gonna be alot of kids getting hurt it that is who it is bought for.

I'm getting one, I'm willing to bet this 80hp phazer would probibly run right along side my 98hp SX600R. I use to do alot of trail riding BEFORE the big bump sleds came out, Since all the "big bump" sleds came out and everyone has one now the trails go the crap ALOT faster then they use and the bumps are 3-4times as bad as they were 10 years ago (when I strickly rode my phazer II). I'm done with Trails, I use to be a 80% trail/20% off trail/ditch rider but now I'm switching to more of a 25% trail/75% off trail/ditch rider where this new Phazer fits in perfect.

I think everyone is getting hung up on what its not. I think yamaha named it PHAZER for a reason.. Its not a viper replacement or a 600/700 SXR replacment. Its a PHAZER replacement. The last time I was riding there where plently of old pogo stick phazers on the trail. I would bet them people would love the amount of horsepower of the new one.

Can't wait to get on one of these babies!!! Gonna be a blast in the ditches and a good sled for the wife as well!!
jwiedmayer, that secondary is what was used on the 1994 and older Vmax's, etc. Great for low HP and cheaper to produce.
