Cylinder cleanup (nicasil)

I'm looking for tips as to what people use to take the glaze off their cylinders when doing a rebuild.Honing stones seem to be the most common answer but what grit? Can someone help me out here? Thanks

I stopped using the flat stones years ago. I switched over to the ones that have the little balls on the end. As far as courseness I've never know there to be any for those.

BTW - on nicasil cylinders you'll only wanna hone it enough to take any dark, blow by spots off. That stuff is hard as hell and chrome rings aint gonna seat real well if you rough'em up to much.......

Thanks. Now that I think of it ball hones were what I've heard about but I have never used one and like you say nicasil isn't supposed to be honed very much and I really dont want to screw up a good cylinder.
